Good rains fell during the first ot
tho weok In all sections of the state,
nnd last Saturday local rains occur
red in the Willamette valley and
coast counties. The rains were quite
heavy in tho eastern sections on tho
25th nnd 2fith, but, although they in
terfered xvith harvesting and thresh
ing, they did no matciial damage to
tho grain In shock, in the Wlllnm
etlo valley the rains nnd cloudy
xveathor caused an increase of lice
and mold In tho hop yards, but no
great amount of damage has yet oc
curred. Hop picking has commenced,
and It will become general this week,
Tho conditions noxv seem settled xvith
good prospects for at least two or
three (lays of clear and warm weather
which xvlll insure a good start in har
xesting the hop crop.
Wheat, oats and barley hax'o nearly
.i'! boon out, and threshing is well
rUai.rpd. Tho yields continue to
1 ; urn out satisfactory, nnd tho farmers
mi lmsy hauling the crop to the
alehouses.
! Potatoes, corn and other minor
1 rops are doing nlcoly. Stock is in
xcillent condition for tho season of
the year, and tho flow of milk in the
dally dlstircts Is exceptionally good.
The third crop of nlfalfa is being cut

Apples and prunes continue to drop,
as usual at this season of the year,
but there is enough fruit left on the
trees to give largo yields of prunes,
and It Is believed a good crop of ap
ples will bo hnrrestcd. The prune
harvest will begin In about txvo
xvecks. Kvergrcen blackberries are
plentiful in the markets.
Columbia River Valley.
Wasco, Sherman comity, W. C.
Morehouse. Fore part of xveok rainy,
latter pari line; threshing xvell under
xvay; both spring and fall wheat
yielding xvell, and ns a general thing,
much better than expected before
threshing began.
Lexington. Morrow county, Kdwin
It. Beach. Wheat of good quality,
yield near txvo-thirds of the usual pro
duction; fruit crop good; not a large
yield of apples; potatoes not dried up
boforo the rains are doing well;
threshing Is well under way and the
hauling of xvheat to the depot is pro
gressing rapidly.
Helix, Umatilla county, S. T. Isaac.
Harvesting nearly completed, only
a few lots remaining unthreshed;
fully one-half or tho crop is now in
the xvaiehouses; wheat and barley
giving good yields; the quallly of the
xvheat Is excellent; heavy showers
Tuesday and Wednesday, which great
ly improved condition of roads.
