Ed C. Allen, formerly a business
man of Pendleton, has been offered
tho management of mines at Butte.
Mrs. E. A. Boyd arrived in Athena
from Milton Monday and will make
this city her future home.

Miss Elsa Rosenzwelg left for Spo
kane Tuesday, where she will remain
for a fortnight.
Master Rudolph Proebstel, of Nam-
pa, Idaho, is visiting his aunt, Mrs
Clarence Whltcman.
Miss Bessie Watts, of Pendleton
was a guest of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William McBrlde. She return
ed home Sunday accompanied by her

Robert Tharp received a painful
but not a serious Injury a few day
ago, while doing some blacksmlthing.

face, injuring both his eyes.
Mrs. O. C. Beck is 111 at her home
In this city. She had been sick for

Mrs. P. E. Colbern is suffering
from a severe attack of erysipelas at
her home at present.
Sheriff Till Taylor and Miss Mossy
of Pendleton, were guests at the
home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs,
David Taylor, of this city.
Miss Edna Owens arrived home
Sunday morning from Hood River
valley, where she has been spending
tho summer.
Henry Schmltt has beou elected
delegate from the Methodist Episco
pal church of this city, to attend the
annual conference at Spokane next
week.
William Mosgrove matio a trip to
Portland this week.
Beck-Nelson.
At 3 o'clock Sunday evening at the
homo of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Beck, a
very pretty homo wedding occurred,
when the nuptials of Charles H. Nel
son and Miss Catherine E. Beck were
solemnized. The rooms were taste
fully decorated with cut flowers and
potted plants. Tho bride was at
tired In white silk mull and carried
white carnations. Tho groom was
dressed in conventional black. Miss
Elsa Rosenzwelg, the brldemald.
looked handsome in white and baby
blue, and carried a bouquet of brides
maid roses. Roy Beck, brother of
the bride, acted as best man. Rev.
W. E. Armlleld performed the cero
mopy, after which an elaborate din
ner was served. The following guests
wore present: Misses Edna Rider,
Nellie Foss, Bessie McBrlde, Winnie
corking and Messrs. Leo McAtee,
Harry Rosenzwelg and Henry Doll;
Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Pinkerton, Mr.
and Mrs. D. A. Pinkerton and Mr.
and Mrs. O. C. Beck, Jr., and Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton. Tho young
couple left on the 5 oclock train
amid showers of rice, old shoes and
good wishes for their home near
Pendleton.
Grocery Business Sold,
York and Henry Dell have pur
chased the grocery stock and busi
ness formerly owned and controlled
by Shlck Brothers and Edward
Koontz, under tho firm name of
Shlck & Co. The transfer was made
Saturday and tho now firm, Dell
Bros., opened Mouday morning. The
two young men are -well and favora
bly known In Athena, whore they
have grown to manhood.
Of tho members of ttio retiring
firm, Mr, Koontz will probably en
gage in fanning. Ho has long been
In tho grocery buslnoss in Athena,
and has been very successful In that
trade. As to what the Snick broth
ers will do Is not known at present.
Arm Fractured Twice.
Eva, tho llttlo daughter of Mrs.
Walker Wilson, who broke her arm
some time ago, fell Saturday caus
ing a second fracture In the same
placo.
