INDIAN INSTITUTE NOTABLE GATHERING OF TEACHERS AT YAQUINA Workers Among the Government Wards Hold an Interesting Meeting All Pacific Coast States Repre sentedMusic by Chemawa School Band. The institute in session hero is the most successful ever held, says the Yaquina News. This Is the fourth annual session ot the Indian workers on the Pacific Coast, the first being organized and hold at the- Chemawa Indian Training School tnreo years ago. The second meeting was held at Tacoma, Wash., in 1901, whllo last year It was convened hero, and the management was so well pleased with the many natural advantages nnd at tractions around Yaquina bay that Newport was again chosen. This year 10 states are represent ed as follows: Oregon, Washington, -.iornia, Arizona, Utah, Xovada, Idaho, Mon tana, Wyoming and Pennsylvania. Miss Estelle Reel, national super intendent or Indian schools, Is pres- j ent and giving personal attention to the institute. The officers of tho Institute are: W. P. Campbell, ass'sfct'c superin tendent Chemawa Indian Training School, president, and John J. Mc Koin, superintendent at Sllelz agr-i.ty, secretary. Many able papers and subjects im portant to the welfare of the Indian school work are being presented and discussed by the educators of the state. The music for the occasion is fur nished by the Chemawa Indian School band, which Is justly credited one. if no the best, musical organizations on the Pacific Coast. A very large number of Indian schools are represented in this very excellent exhibit, showing the indus trial and literary work being carried on in the Indian schools, which is an object lesson that is forcibly con vincing to the most skeptical.
