Echo. Ore.. Aug. 29. Congressman-Elect
J. X. Williamson, Con
gressman Malcolm A. Moody, Chief
Hydrographcr W. A. Xewell, Engi
neer Brooks, of Xew vork. and En
gineer John T. Whtu'.er came In es
terday to look over the government
Irrigation enterprise at this place.
They spent the day in gathering data
i concerning the various resources of
I this part of the country and. in con
I vorsation with prominent irrigation-
j Ists. and today drove out over the
1 proposed line of ditch which was
t I run out some months ago by Engi-

I reservoir sites.
It is the opinion of Congressman
Moody that the completion of the en-
wholly upon the
the proposition, which
4. can be ascertained only by a complete
investigation.
The nearness to market, quality of
soil. Immense amount of land and
I lay of the country are very much in
1 favor of the enterprise.
1 These facts are causing some flur
I ry in real estate here, and there is
) considerable inquiry for property In
the village.
Quite a number of cabins are be
ing built by those who recently Bled
homesteads, and the belief becomes 1
more prevalent even among those
who had no faith, that something
will ultimately be done to reclaim
this vast tract.
This enterprise, if found feasible
and developed, would ce-cainly he a
cresi boon to this part of the coun
try in particular, and to the state in
general, and therefo-e should hr: 1
the hearty endornemprt ami K';.l,r.-r
of every one who is interested in
building up the State of Oregon.
The delightful showers of a few
davs ago have cooled the atmos
phere, besides starting the flow of
the river and thereby providing wr
ter for the late crops of alfalfa. This
means a greatly incr?ase1 .'.mount of
fed and stockmen are very much en
couraged The infant son of C. S Muds' was
Interred here yesterday. The fun
eral, which was held a, the M. K.
church, was attended by a l.irg? con
course of friends.
