Huckleberries Hard to Find and Cur rants Are Out of the Market Nearly All Vegetables Have Be come Cheaper, the Exception Being Tomatoes Divergence in the Views of Sellers and Buyers of Wheat Everywhere. It is possible to buy huckleberries in the city, but it is hard for the housewife to find them in the market ror they are so perishable that it does not pay the grocers to carry them in stock. However, they are brought in to the city by the country people and are worth COc a gallon. The crop is large this year and the hillsides are red with them. Currants have about gone out of uiu mantel, though there is now and then a lot brought Into thn rllv nnd traded In at one of the stores or the other. Tomatoes are about the same this week as last, though It Is possi ble to get three pounds of them for -a cents. This Is a little cheaper than last week. The tomato crop is a disappointment to tlio growers and the prices will remain relatively high for the reason that the frost has blighted the vines and the fruit has been killed in part. Green corn has fallen as the supply has come In and now the lovers of the cereal In its green state can gorge to their heaits' content for It can be bought for 20 cents per dozen ears. Carrots are as cheap as the dirt from which they sprang, and can be got for 2 cents for every pound, and before the week is out perhaps they will be cheaper than ever for they are the cheapest thing that is sold. Pendleton Retail Grocery Prices. Coffee Mocha and Java, best, COc per lb.; next grade, 36c per lb; lower grades coffee, 25c to 15c per lh.; package coffee, and 20c per lb, 3 packages for EOc. Rice Best head rice, 12c per lb.; next grade. 10c per lb. Sugar Cane granulated, best, IG.50 per sack; do, 13 pounds, 1. Salt Coarse, $1.10 per 100; table, 52.50 per 100. Flour B. B., U per barrel; Wal ters', $4 per barrel, . Cherries, Royal Ann, 10c box; pie cnerries, 3 for 25c. Watermelons, 25 50c each. Mttskmelons, 5 25c each. Raspberries, 10c box. Currants, 35c gallon. Apricots, 5c box. Peaches, 7c pound. Peach plums, oc. Tomatoes. 10c pound. pounds for 25o. Green corn. 20c dozen. Radishes, 5c bunch. Onions, 3c bunch. Cabbage, 4c per pound. Carrots, 2c pound. Green apples, 3c lb.. $1 box, Cucumbers, 2 for Ec. New potatoes, 2c per pound, week to millers, and these at prices entirely too high for exporters to at tempt to secure. Now wheat has hardly as yet been offered for salo; farmers' Ideas as to the values aro greatly inflated and they show very little disposition to meet buyers' ideas as to values. This position must In the end result disastrously to tho selling interest. Farmers and sellers must bear in mind that prices here are subject to selling values in Europe, cost of freight nnd insurance added, nnd that exporters tako all the risk attached to the export busi ness. It is well known that present bids put out are much above a parity wllh selllt.i prices abroad vullv 7 cents per bushel, nnd unless n rone-! tlon sets In there will bo very little business done enrly this season. As to selling prices It is dlltlrult to give an accurate figure; old wheat, club, is quoted Sc; now, 75c; bluestem, Sle for old; new, "So. and valley, old, 79c and S0c, with no quotation for now. Flour Market is fairly steady and a good demand exists from tho Ori ent; a great many orders are con stantly refused, as bids nro too low, considering the price millers have to pay for wheat. There Is no demand for the United Kingdom for any of our product, ns prices are too high and we must look to China, Japan and South Africa for our trade. San Francisco will bo n good consumer this year, ns tho wheat crop is very small, and possibly a demand will bo made for some of the Northern Hour. South and Central America is taking fair stocks. Quotations are very firm at present and innge from $3.S5 to $4.35 per barrel. Mlllstuffs The demand for mill of fal Is very good nnd there is no change in the situation, either ns to demand or prices; both are well maintained. Quotations are for bran. $22.50. and shorts, $23 per ton. Middlings are $2fi.50 per ton. Barley -Market Is without change, ns new barley has not yet made its appearance; there is nothing doing. Countrj warehouses have only been receiving small lots as yet. Sellers' Ideas as to values are entirely out of range of buyers' views as to values. That there is a very strong deadlock existing nud nothing will be done un til the same Is broken. Food barley is quoted bv buyers at $18 I'er ton. and brewing nt $20. San Francisco Markets.
