Watermelons and Muskmelons Are Now staples, But Come High To matoes anJ Green Corn Are Now Here to Stay Till the End of Their Season Very Little Variation In Prices. The only thing about tho markets this week that Is new Is tho addition or one or two things that come with tno good old summer tlmo, and tho passing of the old potato for tho new. Watermelons aro now in the mar kct, hut they havo como all tho way irom California to get there, and aro correspondingly high, retailing at from 25 to 50 cents per. Wc cannot look for a liberal export movement much beforo October. Exporters havo great dim culty In securing options on wheat at present, as the farmer Is quite n plu tocrat this season. It Is unnecessary to say that present values will tend to delay action or free selling and probably sellers will hold off for some time before parting with their wheat, as all of them anticipate higher prices than tho market will warrant nnd It remains to be seen whether tho urg ency to sell Is less or greater than tho pressure to buy. Farmers will no doubt get nil the market can stand after allowing for a legitimate profit for handling and usual risk of ship ment. Quotations for old wheat aro 7Sc for club.
