Beneath the cigar-shaped balloon is suspended the bamboo framework carrylnR tho one or two passengers, the petrol mo tor, the screw tractor or propeller, and the rudder. The motor is placed In the front half of tho framework, the car In the back half. Tho pro peller Is fixed In front, the rudder nt the rear. Everything Is worked from the car by an apparatus similar to that used for operating tho brake on cycles. Tho airship with which tho success ful experiments were made last year was of four horse-power, whllo tho new ship Is of 24 horse-power. The maximum speed of the former was 10 miles an hour, and of the latter 30 miles an hour. Tho two-blade screw tractor for propelling the ship Is 12 feet in length. Tho rudder consists of a silk-covered framework. Tho airship Is capable of carrying two pas sengers, but for the Initial trip to morrow the daring inventor will bo unaccompanied. As to the power of the airship, Mr. Spencer says It will be nble to go through any wind the velocity of" which does not exceed 30 miles nn hour. Extended journeys an? plan ned by the Inventor, and he says he hopes to provide surprises for tho spectators. GOOD CITIZENSHIP DAY. Christian Endeavor Convention at Denver Discusses Civic Issues. Denver, Col., July 10. This was "good citizenship" day In the Chris tian Endeavor convention. At near ly all tho meetings of the day the re ports, addresses, presentations and songs tended toward the subject, and the leading speakers, among them District Attorney Joseph V. Folk, ot St. IaiuIs, were men whose fame Is tne result of their efforts for munici pal and slate reform. .Many thousand delegates began the day, as they did yesterday, with de votions. .Morning prayer meetings were held In a score of churches nt C:30 o'clock. .Many impromptu meet ings were held on the streets, and many a toller In store or factory lingered to take part In tho services on the way to work. An hour before the entrance to Tent Endeavor was opened, City Park was thronged with beveral thousand persons who sang Endeavor songs while they waited for the services to begin. Tho big tent was the scene of an almost contlnu ous session throughout tho day, tho addresses of eminent speakers being Interspersed with prayer and with stirring Christian hymns. One of tho most interesting and novel features of the gathering Is scheduled for to night, when several thousand of the enthusiastic young delegates will as semble on the steps of the Colorado state capllol and unite In singing the stirring songs for which the organiza tion Is (anions. CHAPMAN IS RE-ELECTEDT Overflow Meeting Held In the Atlan ta Churches. Atlanta, Ga July 10. This lias been another busy day for tho dele gates to tho International convention of the Haptist Young People's Union. A large number attended tho sunrise meetings, which were held In the dlf feient churches between (i and 7 o'clock, but owing to the warm weath er the large majority waited until later In the day to offi-r their devo tions. There was no room to spare In the mammoth meeting place when Pres ident Chapman called the convention to order. The features of the con vention were tho election of ointers and the reports of statu work. It was generally conceded that John H. Chapman, of Chicago, would again bo selected as president, and when tho nominating committee presented his name he received an ovation. After tlie election President Chapman was Introduced and thanked tho delegates for the honor paid him. The presen tation of banners was another Inter esting leaturo of tho day'B program. "Workers' conferences" were held In a number of churches tills after noun. Delegates and visitors who did not assist at these conferences, pilot ed by one or moro members of the reception committee, enjoyed the afternoon making short excursions or taking drives or walks through the public parks and to points of Intercut In the city.
