Hixr mony Is to bo the supremo watch word of tho republican statu conven tion which meets hero tomorrow to name cannldates for the statu olllces to bo filled at tho fall election and to frame a platform on which to con duct tho campaign. Tho controversy over the "Iowa Idea," so-called, which some time ngu threatened to mako things lively at tho convention, has been effectually smothered and opin ions vouchsafed by prominent party leaders and delegates already on the Held mako It apparent that tho con vention will bo a harmonious affair. Governor Cummins will be renomi nated by acclamation and tho Indorse ment of President lloosovelt's admin istration and tho recommendation for his ronomlnation by tho national con vention are likewise assured. It may be a matter of somo difficulty lo draw up resolutions that will satisfy both parties that have been contending over the "Iowa Idea," but tho task has boon Intrusted to Senator Allison and there Is n feeling of confidence that ho will bo ablo to smooth nwny nil obstacles. Governor Cummins will lit stand for any action that would make It appear that ho had recanted In his tariff views and If necessary he will make his attitude plain In his speech of acceptance. To avoid giving umbrage to the governor nnd the faction of which ho Is tho leader It will doubtless bo found expedient ic keep In the middle of the road in regard to the tariff resolution and steer clear of any utterance that will give either side to tho contention cause for complaint. Tariff Revision "When Necessary." Following out this program a re vision of the tariff "when necessary will be urged, but this will be nceom panted by the declaration that when the country Is about entering upon n presidential campaign is not an op. portune titno for considering tariff legislation. with tho platform practically agreed upon aud with little to I liter est In the Mcket practically all of the Incumbents are to bo favored with renomluntlon tho delegates hero today are tnklng advantage of tho opportunity to discuss next year's politics. The questions arising over tlie selection of tho delegation to the national convention nro receiving nt tentlou. It is well known that ICrnest K. Hart, of Council Mulls, wants to be national committeeman ironi Iowa for another term. There Is a llkoll hood, too, that ho will meet with Burt ons opposition. Governor Cummins Is considered now as llkoly to heud the Iowa delegation nnd his frlneds say they have no doubt whatever of being able to control tho delegation by an ample majority.
