coln, Nob., who was the former part
ner of W. J. Bryan.
While In the East the Judge was
asked on every hand for Information
relating to this part of the country
and the wholo West, and many of the
Eastern people are making prepara
tions to move to this part of the
union. California is the best adver
tised, hut Oregon, Washington and
Idaho are about as well known, and
are In tho minds of the people who
are looking for homes in a land where
the sun does not burn them or the
wind blow them away.

Line From Pendleton to Lehman
Springs Bought by Endlcott.
John Endlcott of thlB city, has
bought the line of the Pendleton Tel
ephono Company of J. B. Despam and
will take charge of the property at
once.
The line runs from this city to
Pljotltock, Cunningham's, Smith's and
Owlng's ranches, Ridge, Alba, Uklab,
HIdaway Springs and Lehman
Springs and is a valuable piece of
property. It Is tho intention of the
present owner to Improve nnd extend
the plant, making It larger and of
better service.

"Two very quiet weddings took
place last evening in i'rescott that
rather took tho breath of tho friends
of the contracting parties, they com
ing as a complete surprise. Tho hap
py parties to this sly little bit of mat
rimonial romance were James II. Mul
roin nnd Mrs. M. E. McCulloch nnd
Frank B. Mulreln and Lola Jeanette
Ashton, tbo grooms being brothers

daughter.
"Mrs. McCulloch and .inughter have
been spending the past six or seven
months nt Portland and other Oregon
places, tholr old home, and returned
to Prescott Inst evening. Tney wore
mot nt tho depot by the nbove gentle
men with hacks nnd tho former couplo
were driven at once to the ofllce of
Probate Judge Hicks where they were
married. The latter couple drove to
tho Catholic church parsonnge where
they were married by Father Vhlte.
They had a nice lltle cottngo all
ready to begin housekeeping In good
shape and went nt once to occupy it
like good sensible young folk. Mr.
and Mrs. Jnmes Mulreln have apart
ments at the Burke hotel where they
will remnln for tho present. All pnr
tles to this little romance are well
and favorably known In this city and
have a host of freimls who join the

Successful Lawn Party.
Mrs. James Crawford entertained
the members of the Presbyterian Sun
day school last Thursday evening, at
her home on West Jackson street.
The lawn was Illuminated and the
young people were treated to an even

who assisted hor.

Will Spend the Summer at Dixie.
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wade left this
morning for their country home at
Dixie, where they will spend the sum
mer. They were accompanied by the
Misses Edith Habersham and Anna
Maclane, of Astoria, who will visit
with them a week before returning
to their homes.

Tacoma Next Meeting Place Officers
Elected and Medals Presented.
The features of yesterday's shoot at
Dayton was the score of McMillan, of
Post Falls, Idaho, who hit 50 targets
out of a possible 50 In the event for
the Dayton medal, nnd the general
average of Sheard, of Tacpma, wno
messed only 1C targets out of 200 shot
nt.
Tho best ptirso of the day was won
by S. McDonald in event 23, amount
ing to $32.50. Blgelow and Becker, of
Ogdon, and Sheard, of Tacoma, aro
tied for tho Globe trophy with 47 tar
gets each. The tie will he shot off
this evening.
The annual meeting of the associ
ation was held last night in the par
lors of the Dayton Club, when the fol
