A cloudburst between Columbus and Park City this afternoon caused a bad washout on the Northern Pacific. Tho washout occurred In what is known as Valley Creek, where a large wooden bridge, nearly 130 feet high spans what is usually a dry creek. The wa ter Is said to have come down the creek bed in a Bolld wall over 20 feet high, carrying everything before It and sweeping away one Bpan of tho bridge and washing out 30 feet of tracks. Tho roadbed for nearly a quarter of a mile Is covered with deb ris brought down by the rush of wa ters. All trains are tied up, and it will bo 12 or IS hours before the bridge and track aro sufficiently re paired to permit the resumption of traffic. News also reached here this after noon of another washout between Heed Point and Columbus, 15 miles west of the first one, which Is delay ing trains at that point. Tho oldest Inmate of tho Colored Home and Hos pital, at One Hundred and Forty-first street and Southern boulevard, died last Friday, at tho ago of 101 years, Her name was Eliza Bates, but all who knew her called her "Mammy Bates." Until tho end she had per fect health and her faculties were unimpaired. Baker City, June 17 For Insulting u married woman in a local lodging house yesterday, Tom Thall, a cigar maker, was nearly beaten to a pulp by an Irate husband armed with a cane.
