In the western section th week has been dry: durlnc tho first few days tho nights were cool, ami In some places light frosts occurred, during tho later part the tempera ture rose decidedly, and Sunday tho warmest day of tho season occurred, with the thermometer registering be tween 90 and 100 degrees. This warm weather has Injuriously affected late sown spring wheat and forago crops, which now badly need rain. In all parts of tho state, except In tho coast counties, fall wheat, bar ley and rye are beginning to head, In the case of wheat tho straw Is un usually short, and tho crop as a whole promises to bo considerably below the average unless timely rains arrive to improve tho condition of that sown In tho spring, Corn also needs rain, but tho hot weather has caused It to grow rapid ly during tho week. Oardens are do ing fairly well, hut complaints aro Increasing of damngo to squashua. beans and pumpkins by lusocts. Hops that came up are doing nicely, but quite a number of yards havo been abandoned owing to tho great number of missing hills. Somo al falfa and early clover has been cut. The fruit prospects, except peaches, continue very promising, although In the Willamette valley a few corres pondents report cherries and some varieties of apples ns only fair.
