Objection Raised to the Artistic Idea
In Kansas.
The sculpture to represent "Knn
sas," In a group at tho St. Ixiuls ex
position, shows a hnlf nude woman
with one nrm thrown ovor the head
of a bull.
Tho woman has no clothes on, ex
cept a draiiory across her kneos, nnd
a handkerchief wound around her
forehead. Tho former might bo a
bnthrnlw. but the latter looks n If
sho had just finished dusting nnd sat
down to rest.
Hut sho has a sickle in 0110 hand,
uud Kansas women don't use them
to dust with. And thero Is tho bull,
A bull doesn't belong to a parlor

woman sitting with one arm over u
bull crouched besldo her, and wo have
lived In the state 25 years. Hulls arc
not that tamo. If It had IxH-n a cow,
on her feet, with a milking bucket
under her, it would havo been more
like. The woman's feet are bare,
except for a pair of sandals. Our
women don't hang around fierce bulls
In such uttlre, but, 011 the contrnry,
run from them.
If the artists Insist upon a bull,
then ho should have a full-dressed
woman holding up her skirts nnd run
nlng for dear life for a fence.
We don't understand urt; we aro
glad, when wo see what Is lo hi pro
