Disorderly Conduct Ordinance.
An ordinance was Introduced and
passed at the session last night as a
substitute for ordinance No. 12, relat
ing to the disorderly conduct in the
city, and prescribing penalties for
the same.
lhe new ordinance removes the
minimum fines and Imprisonments
in cases of disorderly conduct and
Imposes a maximum of $50 and im
prisonment for not more than 20 days.
By this arrangement, the court may
use his discretion In punishment.
When, as was the case In the old
ordinance, the minimum was $5 and
a Jail sentence, the court could not
hold youthful offenders as petty mis,
demeanors without undue severity,
and the new provision is Intended to
remove this defect.
Section three provides for the pun
ishment of simple assault. In the old
ordinance no one could be prosecut
ed for less than assault and battery.
The city had to prove the beatlug of
the delendant In order to convict.
The new ordinance provides a fine of
not less than $50 or Imprisonment
for not more than 20 days.
