The week has been cooler than usual, and much-needed rains have occurred In Southern Oregon and a few slight showers fell In the eastern sections of the state. No damaging frosts havo been reported, but high winds have slightly Injured tho wheat crop In Umatilla county and retarded tho growth of spring grain in Union county. Wire and cut worms are also reported fo bo doing slight damage In some sections, but in general tho condition of wheat, oats, barley and rye are promising, although these crops are backward. Grass and pas turage aro now making a splendid growth In the western part ot the state, and the flow of milk In tho dairy districts !s excellent, both as to quantity and Quality. Sheen shear- j ing Is advancing slowly, and the clip continues to Du reported light. Plowing land for summer fallow Is nearly completed, and corn land Is mostly nil planted. Corn Is coming up slowly, owing to tho cool weather. Reports from the hop-growing dis tricts are that the crop is quite un even, and the number of missing hills Is much greater than usual. The new ynrds are doing better than the old ones. Gardens and potatoes are prom ising. Sugar beet planting is well ad vanced and the plants are coming up to good stands. Reports on fruit aro somewhat conflicting, with the prospects gen erally favorable for good crops of berries, cherries, pears and plums.
