A Device Valuable to the Lumber In terests. C. E. Ilalesby and E. I). Barley, of this city, have perfected a unique In vention and left this morning for Meochani, where they have the coir tract for sawing logs for the Mlnnls lumber and logging Interests of that place. The affulr is a largo swinging steam saw hung on a derrick and In tended to saw the forest trees as they are found In the woods, cutting them Into tin. lengths rcnulred for shipping. The forest trees are felled and strip ped of their limbs, then skidded to the saw, where they are cut Into lengths. The saw has been tested and found to work satisfactorily at the foundry. If It does good work In actual opera tion, the owners and Inventors expect to mow the mountains hereabouts, NEW BASEBALL MANAGER. R. P. Brown Is Now Captain and Will Also Play With the Team. The Pendleton baseball team has a new manager. Otto Boetcher has re signed his position and II. P- Brown has been elected to fill the placo left vacant by Mr. Boettcher's resigna tion. The latter has had to relin quish his position owing to the de mands or Ills business upon his time. "Bob" Brown needs no Introduction to the people of Pendleton. Ho will play In the team and at the same time manage the boyB In their march toward victory. Mr. Brown Is a good business man and a baseball man, and will lead the team to success.
