The banquet is given in honor of the promoters of the American Hare Packing and' Cold Storage Company, and for the -express purpose of dem onstrating id the public the many table uses to which this game can be put. An effort Is being made to secure a prominent speaker for tho occasion, and a giand ball will follow the banquet. King Edward and Queen Alexandra at Edinburgh. London, May 11. So many years have elapsed since a British sovereign held court In the ancient and historic palace of Kolyrood that the visit of the lilug and queen to Edinburgh this week is attracting great attention throughout the kingdom. As pre viously announced, the royal couple will not remain at Holyrood, but will stay at Dalkeith palace, the Scotch country seat of tho Duke and Duchess of Bacclcuch, about six miles distant from tho Scotch metropolis, and which has been placed at their disposal by the duke for tho purpose. But they will drive into Edinburgh every day. and hold courts and levees at Holy rood. During the king's stay In Scotland, which Is to last about a week, the great officers of his household, as King of Scotland, will be in attend ance on him. They nre entirely dis tinct from tho officers of the Eng lish royal household, among the most notable of them helng tho Duke of Argyll, who is master of tho household in Scotland; the Duke of Ilucclcuch, who is captain-general of the Royal Company of Archers, or tho sover eign's bodyguard for Scotland: Lord Stair, who Is president of the coun cil, and Lord Hoaeherry, who Is vice-president. FIRST WHITE CHILD. George P. Holman Claims to Be the First White Native Oregonlan. George P. Holman arrived from Salt Lake this morning and is at tho Foley. Mr. Holman is tho first white child born In Oregon, his father being one of the signers of the constitution al government of this state of Cham poeg, on tho Willamette river. In 1810. Mr. Holman Is well known in this city and at one time held valuablo real estate Interest hero. The gen tleman Is now In tho lumber business in Salt Lake, and In fact controls tho lumber Interests of that city; ho Is also one of the delegates from Utah to tho Lewis and Clark Fair to bo hold In Portland In 11(05. It Is expected that a largo sum will be realized for the relief of the persecuted Jews of Klshlneff (Bessarabia) by tho united action of the leading Jewish mer chants of Now York In donating two per cent of their gross receipts today toward the cause. This method of contribution was ndopted in response to an appeal issued by Professor Rich ard Gottheil, son of tho late Itabbl Gotthell, and president of tho Federa tion of American Zionists. The same movement Is on foot all over tho country, and It Is anticipated that a fund sufficiently large to relievo tho sufferings of tho Kishineff Jews will bo raised within tho next week.
