The demand by foreign tnnncrs and by exporters for prime anil dry bef hides has advanced tho price onc-haU cent per pound over last week, and the market Is very slow. One dcaur believes not over 25 good beef hides have come Into the market during tho past week. Sheep pelts dry and prime are worth now S and 9'.4 cents but not over 200 have come In during the past week. Ono load commanded 9 cents on a bid that did not represont and quotation; but the bidder got the hides. Had any more bids been offer ed that day they would also lmvo nothing offering In wild furs, the slocks of winter killed having been brought 9 cents. There Is practically mostly marketed. The local livestock market Is al most at a standstill from a dearth of offerings. Sound buyers aro hustling to do biisdncsfc enough to pay expen ses. Prices at a level. Oood ranch butter Is 5 cents cheap er than a witk ago owing to tho In crease In production as the pnsturago improves. Chickens lor the local market have declined a cent a pound. One buyer says It is becauso "Tho people arc tired of Inst year's chicken meat and won't buy any moto In nn-. tlcipation ot spring chickens In a short time." Tho retail market offers no changes In the price of staples ex cept a decline of 15 cents In the price of salt per barrel.
