North Yakima Iibb a surplus school population that is at present giving the board of education considerable trouble to handle. There are enroll ed over 400 pupils more than there is room for. Some of tho teachors threaten to resign if they aro not given relief from the overcrowded condition of the rooms. The board of education has done all in Its power to relievo tho situation and has now left the ouostlon to tho citizens to solve. Thu board last winter called a special election to vote bonds to put up now buildings, but the matter was defeated. There were less than 100 votes enst at the time and a large ma jority of them were against bonding. The limit of the bonds that could bo sold Is $21,000, which could only be used to temporarily relieve the situ ation. Tho members of tho board say five new teachers will bo needed for next year, and before they can he em ployed more room must lie made for the pupils. Purchased 3,000 Cattle. J. C.
