UP 10 COUNTY DADS
LEWISTON COUNCIL WILL
NOT CARE FOR SICK.
Commissioners Reject Bills for $675
for Care of Persons Afflicted With
Contagious Diseases, and City Re
taliates by Passing Up All Sick
Cases to the County.
Lowlston, Idaho, April 25. War Ib
on between tho city authorities and
the county commissioners. Tho for
mer has decided to throw out the
wholo burden of cnrlng for tho indi
gent of this community who aro af
flicted with contagious or oinor his
eases on tho county. At Thursday
night's council mooting It was decid
ed that horeaftor tho city officers
Bhould report all cases of -contagious
diseases to the county physician. It
was tho gonorni opinion of tho coun
cil that tho city should no longer
maintain any hospital, this duty be
ing loft entirely with tho county.
This move was precipitated by tho
action of the county commissioners
yestorday in rojoctlng the bills for
$675 for tho care of persons afflicted
with contnglous diseases.
The rojectlon was mado on tho ad
vice of the county attorney, who hold
that tho claims did not constitute a
proper charge against tho county.
Tho council contends that these bills
were Incurred In accordance with an
understanding with tho old bonrd of
commissioners, In which an isolation
hospital was maintained jointly the
expenses being borne in equal propor
tions by tho city and county.
Tho commissioners have also disal
lowed a number of bills for expenses
Incurred in caring for smallpox cases
in Nez Perce. 'These bills wore In
curred under tho instructions of one
membor of tho board of commission
ers. Attorney Johnson, howovor,
contends that tho county can not le
gally pay thorn, tho commissioners
not having obeyed tho law directing
the organization of a county board of
health and tho formulating of rules
of sanitation.

Mr. Grlfllth thoroughly understands

Unfair Criticism.
Criticism of Miss Stone for going
on the lecture platform to earn
monoy Beoms based on the fact that
sho Is a missionary, engaged in relig
ious work, and therefore Is not freo
to do as others might under the cir
cumstances. This criticism seems to
bo unfair. Many people contributed
to the fund for her ransom at great
personal sacrifice. This sho can re
pay from the fund earned by telling
her story in public and why is this
not legitimate? There Is no question
of the propriety of such public ap
pearance by a minister of tho gospel
In nlcn 1111 olnnnpnt lllfltfrirm

is welcomed by tho public in this ca

CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT AND
RESULTS
A crow of men have been constantly ut work over
since wo acquired this property nnd tho Glasgow crosscut
Las now encountered and fully crosscut tho ledge. In tli'w
eiosscut we have opened up a body of ore sixteen fect in
width currying good commercial vnlues.
In speaking of commercial vnlues wo moan ores
which linve n sufficient vnluo to puy for tho extraction
nulling nnd nil other incidental expenses thoreto, with
onrugh of a margin loft over to pny good dividends to the
stockholders.
This largo body of oro was not in tho nature of u
surprise, wo simply expected it, as tho aurfaco dovclop
uirntB showed this same largo body of ore, and there wus
no reason why it should not bo encountored in this crow
cut nnd at this depth.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
We aro now turning to drift on tho ledgo to tho west
from the crosscut in ordor thnt wo may open up the richer
ues nt a greater depth which are found on the surface
throughout tho Eannockburn claim.
This lino of dovolopment, wo boliovc, will prove very
interesting to nil who aro intorcsted, or may become inter
cited in tho Highland mine, ns it will certainly open up
ore bodies rich in quality nnd in largo quantities.
It will demonstrate thnt tho Highland will rank as one
of the largest producors in tho district.
From now on tho dovolopment work will ho com
paratively easy and not vory expensive, ns we will ho
drifting along tho ledge whore the ground is much easier
to work than in tho country rock which cnenses the vein.
Every month will show n largo increase in our ore reserves.
FREE TRIP TO THE HIGHLAND
To any ono who wishes to invest a reasonable sum of
monoy in tho Highland mine, wo will pny all traveling
expenses to and from tho mino for tho purpose of his
junking u porsonnl cxnininntion.
In offering you a free trip to tho Highland we feel
that this is proof within itself of the vnlue of this prop
erty ns it stunds to renson thnt if wc di dnot have n good
mino thoro nnd nil that wo clnim for it wc could not offer
j on such an inducement
Wo would be only too glad to have ench and every
one- who contemplates tho investment of money in mines,
c. me out nnd look over this property and tho district in
general. In offoring to pay your expenses out hero and
back wo feel that wo are not running any risk whatsoever
an wc know positively that no ono, no mnttor how great
or conservative an export or mining engineer he may be,
could possibly, roughly spenking, "turn it down.
