A A A jal UP 10 COUNTY DADS LEWISTON COUNCIL WILL NOT CARE FOR SICK. Commissioners Reject Bills for $675 for Care of Persons Afflicted With Contagious Diseases, and City Re taliates by Passing Up All Sick Cases to the County. Lowlston, Idaho, April 25. War Ib on between tho city authorities and the county commissioners. Tho for mer has decided to throw out the wholo burden of cnrlng for tho indi gent of this community who aro af flicted with contagious or oinor his eases on tho county. At Thursday night's council mooting It was decid ed that horeaftor tho city officers Bhould report all cases of -contagious diseases to the county physician. It was tho gonorni opinion of tho coun cil that tho city should no longer maintain any hospital, this duty be ing loft entirely with tho county. This move was precipitated by tho action of the county commissioners yestorday in rojoctlng the bills for $675 for tho care of persons afflicted with contnglous diseases. The rojectlon was mado on tho ad vice of the county attorney, who hold that tho claims did not constitute a proper charge against tho county. Tho council contends that these bills were Incurred In accordance with an understanding with tho old bonrd of commissioners, In which an isolation hospital was maintained jointly the expenses being borne in equal propor tions by tho city and county. Tho commissioners have also disal lowed a number of bills for expenses Incurred in caring for smallpox cases in Nez Perce. 'These bills wore In curred under tho instructions of one membor of tho board of commission ers. Attorney Johnson, howovor, contends that tho county can not le gally pay thorn, tho commissioners not having obeyed tho law directing the organization of a county board of health and tho formulating of rules of sanitation. Tho press and general theater-going public pro claim Mr. Griffith a dramatic genius. Unfair Criticism. Criticism of Miss Stone for going on the lecture platform to earn monoy Beoms based on the fact that sho Is a missionary, engaged in relig ious work, and therefore Is not freo to do as others might under the cir cumstances. This criticism seems to bo unfair. Many people contributed to the fund for her ransom at great personal sacrifice. This sho can re pay from the fund earned by telling her story in public and why is this not legitimate? There Is no question of the propriety of such public ap pearance by a minister of tho gospel In nlcn 1111 olnnnpnt lllfltfrirm speaker, and anyone of any occupa tion who has an proper story to tell is welcomed by tho public in this ca pacity.
