CANAL AT RAPIDS MAY MODIFY PLANS TO MEET E8TIMATE8. aw Tons AND Tons Just received another car load of Poultry and stock supplies at thej Colesworthy CHOP MILL 127 and 129 East Alta Street Will Also Examine the Proposed Route Will Also Consider Moody's Suggestion of a Natural Channel From the Big Eddy to Celllo. Washington, April 15. Representa tive Moody, before leaving Washing ton, had a llnnl conference with mem bers of the board of engineers having tinder consideration the opening of the Columbia river from The Dalles to Celllo, and was Informed that the board will meet In Portland May 31 to consider more fully all data that has recently been collected by Major iJinglltt regarding the portion of the river to bo Improved. Mn Moody says that, while It Is Im possible to say what the board will finally report. Its conclusions will largely depend upon calculations to be based on data Unit has been com piled by Major Langfltt, bearing on the several modifications of substl tutlnns for the Harts project. Mr. Moody also had under consid eration with the engineers the re moval of one of the reefs at Ten-Mile Rnplds, with a view to facilitating steamboat navigation up to the lower end of the proposed state portage road. That proposition will be con sldored by the board when It meets. The board will probably visit the ob struction in the river and will deter mine for Itself the need of blasting this reef. Having viewed tho river during the summer, tho board at Its coming meeting will have opportunity to see tho stream at the high stage of water anil form a better Idea of tho volume of water to bo controlled. The board will make an oxtraordi' nary effort to devise a practical plan than can bo carried out at a cost not exceeding Cnptain Hart's esti mate for his original scheme, and thero Is some hope that such a plan may eventually bo found. In the light of data that has been collected by Major Langfltt, the board will bo able closely to estimate the cost of sever al modifications of the Hart's project that have been proposed and will also be able to estimate the cost of other schemes that have been brought for ward by other engineers. Mr. Moody has urged that, if the Hart s plan in an amended form is not agreed upon, the board seriously conslder the proposition of n continu ous canal from tho Big Eddy to Celllo ana determine, wnotner or not bucii a canal can be built by making use ot natural cnannela throueh tho rocks to the south of the river, at a cost not greator than Hart's estimate. This suggestion will bo InvoHicated and, If It proves feaalblo at reaaona blo cost, may be accepted, as the .ad' vantages of a continuous canal .are recognized by many of the officers CROOKS FOLLOWING PRE8IDENT Army of Criminals Take Advantage of Crowds, Butte, Mont., April 15. I HIGHLAND STOCK WILL BE ADVANCED IN PRICE MAY 15th, 1903 Development at the Highland Mine Justifies an Advance in the Price of Stock. It is Much More Valuable Now Than When We Placed the First Allotment on the Market Some Two Months Ago. CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT AND RESULTS A crow of men have been constantly at work ovor since wo acquired this property nnd the Glasgow crosscut Las now oncountored and fully crosscut the ledge. In thid ciqsscut wo have opened up a body of ore sixteen feet in width carrying good commercial values. In speaking of commercial vnlues we mean ores which have a sufficient vnluo to pny for the extraction milling and all other incidental expenses thereto, with enr ugh of a margin left ovor to pny good dividends to the stockholders. This large body of oro was not in the nature of a surprise, wo simply expected it, as tho surface dcvclop mrnts showed this same Jarge body of ore, and thero was no reason why it should not be encountered in this cross cut and at this depth. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT We are now turning to drift on the ledge to the west from the crosscut in order that we may open up the rifher cies at a greater depth which are found on tho surface throughout tho liaunockburn claim. This lino of development, we boliove, will prove very interesting to all who are interested, or may become 'titer eeted in tho Highland mino, as it will certainly open up ore bodies rich in quality nnd in largo quantities. It will demonstrate that tho Highland will rank as one nf the largest producers in tho district. From now on the development work will be com paratively easy and not vory expensive, as wo will bo drifting along tho ledgo whoro tho ground is'much easier to work thnn in the country rock which encases the vein. Every month will show a large increase in our ore reserves. FREE TRIP TO THE HIGHLAND To any ono who wishes to invest a reasonable sum of money in tho Highland mine, wo will pay all traveling o:ponscs to and from tho mino for tho purpose of his making a personal examination. In offering you a frco trip to the Highland we feel that this is proof within itself of the vnluo of this prop erty as it stands to reason that if wo di dnot hnvo a good m:no there and all that wo clnim for it wo could not offer on such an inducement. We would bo only too glnd to have each and every one who contemplates the investment of monoy in mines, me out and look over this proporty nnd tho district in general. In offoring to pay your oxpensos out horo and back we feel that we are not running any risk whatsoever as wo know positively that no ono, no mnttor how great or conservative nn export or mining engineer he may be, could possibly, roughly speaking, "turn it down." POOL YOUR INTERESTS If you hnvo not sufficient monoy yourself to justify you in coming to tho Highland to look it over before in verting, wo would suggest that you and your friends make up a small pool and send ono of your number out here to look ovor tho Highland. In this way wo believe you v uld get absolute information as to tho value of the prop erty you invest your monoy in, nnd you will also hnve an opportunity to learn all about the roputntion, standing and ability of tho directors of tho Highland camp my- OUR REFERENCE We take pleasure in referring you to any bank K'1 ii (ss man, or mining man in our own community.
