ARBORDAYPRQCRftM
SOME DETAILS NOT
MENTIONED YESTERDAY.
Sophomore Class Heralded by White
Knlnht Many Tastefully Arranged
Floats Primary Grades Took the
Crowd.
Other details In the Arbor Day
procession not mentioned yesterday
for lack of time and space was the
high school sophomore class which
was heralded by a white knight on n
white horse.
The sophomores rodo In a float
beautifully decorated with chrysan
themums and lllllos. There were sev
eral chariots In which rodo little gltU
drawn by boys, and also several decor
ated play wagons with the same kind
of burden and steeds.
Several rooms in the procession had
tho Individual members yoked to
gether by long festoons representing
trailing vines. There, was a great
profusion of banners, somo of them
hnnd-painted, nnd nearly all born
some appropriate motto.
A very pretty detail was the pla
toon bearing bird houses nnd ban
ners with the pictures nnd names of
Oregon birds. Tho bicycle brlgado,
on account of tho necessarily slow
pace for tho most part walked and
led their steedo.
The eighth grade float reprcseulcl
a great deal of hard work tastefully
expended. The seventh grade r.iade
a great hit, with pennants represent
ing trailing vines suspended from the
staffs of banners. The sixth grade
with their bird houses, bird banners
and bird cages showed perhaps, noi
real originality In the designs than
any other department.
The fifth grade was tho bicycle
bilgado which for the most pan walk
ed. Nearly every wheel was prettily
decorated, and this platoon could
linvo made, if detached from the pro
cession, a very cffectlvo exhibit.
The Fields school scholars wore it:
tho front rank with tho profusion and
excellent taste of their equipment.
The little ones from tho primary
grades "brought down Iho house" all
along tho lino of march. Each child
bore the brand- ot t tloworlng tree
peach, plum or nprlcot, and the
scheme was recognized for its singu
lar appropriateness by every nbsf-veins
soon as the little ones put In an
nppearanee.
All the teachers nvor that tho sug
gestions of tho scholars thcmrelvs
were utilized from thi ot-ghiulutr In
arranging for details of tho displays.
Every opportunity was given them to
display their Ingenuity, lolh In Uiclr
personal habiliments and in tho mat
ter of suggestions for' tho floats and
other general 'eatures. Hut tho
teachers themselves bore tho most ol
the burden of thought nnd hard vvoik,
necessarily, ,
