Tho project which was detailed n' length in the East Oregonlnn several weeks ago for tho organization of an Irrigation district at Milton and Free wntor, which was to bo the first Irri gation district In tho state under the law of 1895. will probably crystallize. At the time the plans were first made public, It will ho romembnri"! that there wns some doubt about tho promoters hanging together. Most of those Interested had been using water from privnto ditches for year.-t and many of tlioin were loath to re linquish the privilege they hud so long enjoyed In their own way. However, nearly everybody Interest ed has come to an understanding and the project will undoubtedly bo put through according to Us original pro jectors, or nearly so. A good deal of tho credit for tho present concert of action belongs to Jonathan Talbert, who has been ac tive and Insistent for n long time In the Interests of the proposed district. Through his efforts and those of others the objections to tho plan have been allayed by a careful study of tho law of lSflii, and Its Interpret!) tlon by Judge Lowell. It Is expected that the petitioners to tho county court will he those whose names ap pear below. A lew ot the original petitioners withdrew their names nt one Juncture, when It was feared the plan would have to be abandoned. but It is understood that these names have all or nearly all, been returned to tho list.
