A few minutes after tho Spokane i-eimieion irain passed tlirough, on Tuesday evening, smoku was seen coming out from under tho Walla Walla Produce Company's warehouse near tne depot. At first It was thoucht that a spark from the engine had ig nited in the trash, but on closer In vestigatlon It certainly appeared like the work of an incendiary. Where the fire was set. was found a handful of newly-made shavings whittled from a board that had not all burned no. A boy was seen to untie a horse from the railing a few minutes before the fire was discovered, and ride away as fast as the horse could run. What the motive was Is a mystery, as Mr. Mumford, the manager here, has not an enemy around. A Large New Sanitarium. Several years ago a small building was put up at the site of this spring and a stone retaining wall built around tho lake. From this small be ginning has come the present commo dious and popular resort. It Is owned by W. M. Pierce, of this city, and Dr. O. W. Tape, who man ages the sanitarium. The water boils forth nt a temperature of 192 degrees. About 2,000,000 gallons of water n day is the flow from this spring. The buildings are heated without expense by a system of hot water pipes piped fiom the spring. A line or green houses Is to bo heated In tho same manner thus ensuring flowers and fiesh vegetables the year around. It Is destined In time to have a more than local or stato reputation. Cove's Rich Resources. Cove is another point of especial In terest. It Is located in a sheltered cove as Its name Implies and ls in wbat Is known as the thermal belt. Some of the largest, firmest and best flavored cherries to be found any where are grown here. Other fruits and vegetables also do well. Most of Its cherries and fruit are marketed In the Centrul or Eastern states.
