Hayden has sold his con fectionery business at 909 Court i street, to Charles Miller, who came ( here recently from Indiana, and who I is now in charge. I Adam Leonhardt has sold to J. H. i Thompson for f 1,500, his 140 acre farm, two miles west of Yoakum. Fred C. Searcey has bought of Ed gar L. Smith, paying therefor $8,000, his 320-acre farm in section 1. town ship 3, range 31. The place lies sis miles north and three miles west of Pendleton. John C. Records has bought of Frances M. Derrick, paying therefor $4,000, the latter's 80-acre farm in section 30, township 6, range 35. The place Is six miles northwest of Mil ton. Arthur Roberts has bought of John Hansen his 160-acre farm, eight miles east and four miles north of Weston, paying therefor $1,600. Will Move His Residence. Dr. C. J. Smith will move his resi dence in which he resides, at pres ent, to lots on East Lewis street, sev eral blocks from where it now stands. His new residence will stand on the site of the old one, and work will be gin upon It as soon as the site is ready for the reception of the mater ial. The new residence, the planB for which were drawn by T. F. Howard, will be modified colonial style, with, of course, all the modern improve ments. It will contain 11 rooms, with a full complement of halls, store rooms, etc.. and will cost not less than $7,000. Stock Thin. J. M. Ogle, of Butter Creek, eight miles south of Vinson, reports stock thin on account of protracted forage feeding, but stock is all healthy. Sheep shearing will begin in that neighborhood May 1. There is yet some measles In that neighborhood, Charles Lightfoot being confined to his house with an attack but all traces of smallpox and scarlet fever have disappeared. Eleven people in that vicinity had smallpox during the past winter. r L. HUNZIKER Jeweler and Optician Winter on Upper McKay. Dan Bowman from Upper McKay Creek was in Pendleton visiting to day. He says that almost all of his neighbors as well as himself have fed the last wisp of hay and straw and if feeding weather keeps up they will have to feed grain to their sheep. The past winter, while quite mild, has been a winter requiring much more feed than most winters. He says the snow still hangs on In Upper Mc Kay district Claims Not Settled. None of the claims for Insurance, growing out of the Pendleton hotel fire, have yet been settled. A force of men is at work today on the roof, which will be the first damage to be repaired. Work on the interior will then be prosecuted at once, and it is tlimii?ht that the buildlntr will be l ready for occupancy inside of 10 days, i today is in Yakima valley. A A AAA PATRIOTIC CLUB. T. G. Halley Attends Annual Meeting f and Is Elected Vice-President for ' Ensuing Year. ( T. G. Halley has returned from his f ii ip iu ruruuuu, wnoiu uo wcui uu private business, but attended by in vitation, the banquet last Saturday night of tho Patriotic Club, at the Portland hotel. He reports the menu as elegant and the floral decorations superb. Mr. Halley was chosen vice- president of the club for the ensuing year. The program Tor the evening Included a response by Mr. Halley to the toast, "The President of the United States." The annual meeting is held on the birthday of Andrew Jackson, although the organization is I strictly non-partisan.
