The new service is augmented and perfected by a new and unique check ing system whereby all orders nro taken on a dupligraph and duplicates blown to the different departments through the tubes. The dupligraph makes fac-simlle duplicates of the parts of the original check drawing on each department. This duplicate is used to fill the order. A waiter can thus call at the bar, and in the kitchen and other departments prac tically at the same time to have his orders prepared. Mr. Edward J. Palo, formerly one of the proprietors of Gould's hotel, Boston, and one of the best known ho tel men in New England, has been en gaged to assist Mr. Woodbury and will give the new departure his personal j attention. The St. Regis and Knickerbocker hotels which are to rival each other in luxury and splendor and Muschen helm's new Astbr House which have been in course of construction for some time will also adopt the new method of feeding their guests through pneumatic tubes. ! I Italian Gardeners in High Favor at Lakeview Vegetables Lower All Around. Lakeview, Or., March 10. A com pany of Italian vegetable gardeners have gone into business and bid fair to drive out the American gardeners living along the east side of Goose Lake, who in years past have suppli ed the town with vegetables. The Italians are conducting business on a more extensive scale, and while there is a scarcity of vegetables they havo cut uie price or potatoes to J1.B0 per ewe, and otner things in proportion. Gardeners threatened to call on them en masse and request them to move on. The Italians are all citizens and some are native born Americans, The oia garaeners are not meeting with much sympathy from the public, who appreciate the fact that Uie Italians shipped a carload of seed potatoes here from Reno, Nev., last spring, at a cost of nearly $1,000, besides the risk, and by raising about 100 tonB of potatoes saved the community from a potato famine. As $1.50 per cwt, Is a pretty good living price for potatoes in any country, they see no reason why the Italians should combine with our farmer gardeners to raise It. The Italians have held down prlceB all along the lino all season. Though their prices would bo considered high In the Willamette valley, they are lower than usual here and the sympa thy of the public Is with them.
