Maryland Presents Statue of Charles Carrol and John Hanson Work of Richard Brooks. Washington, Jan. 31. Statuary Hull of the national -capitol was Ihe scene of interesting exercises today Incident lo the acceptance from tho state of Maryland of the statues of Charles Carroll and John Hanson. Congress adjourned for the occasion and the members, together with many other interested auditors, listened to ad dresses by Congressman Dalzell of Pennsylvania, Congressman George A. Pearre, of Maryland, 'and several other speakers, who eulogized the lives and public services ol the two distinguished Marylanders, whose memory is to be perpetuated in .bronze In the national "Hall of Fame." The two statutes form a notablead dition to the many magnificent work3 in Statuary hall. The Btatues are tho work of Richard E. Brooks, the dls tingulshed Massachusetts sculptor. unanes uarron is, represented as replying to the remark that there was more than one Charles Carroll, in the familiar words "but there is onlv 0110 Charles Carroll of Carrollton." He stands solidly on his right foot, his left foot being advanced and lie holds in ills light hand a peu. In his Jeft is tho copy of the Declaration of In dependence which he is about to sign ins r.'.cf ueniB a runuiuii1 expietiMou, such, no doubt, as he wore when he signed his name "Charles Carroll of Carrollton." John Hanson, president of the Coiv Unental congress, is represented as standing firm on his left foot, with his right 'aavanced. His head is slightly bent forward and he is in an attitude of reflection. In his left hand Is held a document, which is evidently the cause of deep study. The right hand grasps one of those long sticks so common In colonial and revolutionary days. Tho head is covered and tho shading from the peak of the hat of tho period accentuates the thought ful pose.
