purchased 7000 pounds of alfalfa
seed to sow on his Foster ranch this
spring.
A Ladies' Aid Society has just been
organized in this city. Mrs. H. C.
Willis is president.
O. D. Teel. an extensive farmer
and stockman, of this vicinity. Is at
tending court in Pendleton.
Another rabbit drive will be ar
ranged within a short time and the
promoters expect a larger crowd than
.attended the last one given.
R. Jones, the saddler, has been in
Pendleton this week attending court.
Mr. Jones purchased the horse be
longing to M. J. Carrey, of Pendleton

is erecting 45-foot poles on which to
string its wires from the city office to
the Oregon Railroad & Navigation
Company's depot. The shorter poles
now in use do not raise the wires
above the trees, and the mixing of
the limbs and wires during wind
storms has been a menace to tele-,
graphic communication. A force of
15 men is now employed nt the work,
and It Is expected to have It com
pleted within three weeks. Walla

Physicians Who Are Members of the
Legislature Banquetted.
The Marion County Medical Society
on Tuesday evening gave a banquet to
visiting physicians who are members
of the legislature. Tho subject of the
creation of a state board of health
was discussed. The sentiment among
the medical profession In attendance
was unanimously in favor of such a
rueasuro creating such aNboard with
full quarantine powers. Tho banquet
was a decidedly happy affair, and
served to promote a better acquaint
ance among the members of the pro
fession, and .premitted the Inter
change of ideas on legislation pend
ing before the state legislature, and
in which tho physicians of the entire
