Depends on Beet Growers.
Washington, D. C, Jan. 8. The
fate of the Cuban reciprocity treaty.
It Is believed, may depend upon the
cction taken at the meeting of the
National Association of Beet Growers
which began in Washington today,
r.nd as a consequence tho proceedings
of tho meeting will be watched with
closest attention. Should the conven
tion decide adversely tp the Cuban
tieaty, it is said that the beet sugar
senators of last session, or a majority
of them, will again become Insurgents
and endeavor to prevent ratification
Appreciating the Importance of the
JsHiie, friends of the treaty are using
their utmost endeavors to persuade
the representatives o'f the beet sugar
Interests, who are here from Nebras
ka, Michigan, Kansas, California and
othor states, that a tariff reduction
such as is provided in the treaty will
not be hurtful to their Interests.
Wool Markets,
Boston, Jan. 8. The wool market
held rather quiet oer the holidays as
a whole, but some houses report a
good weok'se business. Some buyers
think the market Is as high as It is
llkelv to co. but there Is certainly
nothing that would indicate that the
nrlce limit has ueen reacnea yet
There was a tremendous advance, es-
neclallv in pulled and combing wools.
These wools show an advance of 3
4c per pound, and are now rully on a
parity with tho rest of the market.
