CASH GROCERY AND BAKERY A FIRE EDITION' STORY FROM OREGON NEWSPAPER HISTORY. The Death of Editor McGarrey, of Lakevlew, Recalls an Interesting ..Incident in Oregon Journalism. The death of J. E. McOarrey, editor of the Lake County Examiner, last week, recalls one of th most interest ing little Incident that has ever brightened the field of Oregon Jour nalism. At the time of the Arc In Iakevlew, In June, 1900, McGarrey was editor ot the Examiner and J. C. Oliver was editor of the Lake County Hustler, The two papers wero bitter opponents and delighted to take opposite sides of every tjues- Hon, It was a continual "scrap" in Lakevlew and the people became di vided, more or less, on local Issues,, cut of preference for their favorite paper. "Barriers Burned Away." Finally the Lakevfew lire of 1900 willed out the town, newBpajier shops and all. One paper saved a few cases of type and one saved an old Job press. In the midst of the sad spec tacle of the devastated town and the vanished fortunes of many citizens, some wafr termed the destruction of the rival offices, "barriers uurned away." it wts hoped that old bit ternesses bad been consumed with the office fixtures and that a more congenial spirit would revive In the work of rebuilding the town and uniting local Interests. The Fire Edition. The morning following the fire, the editors of the Rustler and the Ex aminer met In a butcher shop that had been saved from destruction., (It would not be fair to jest now about the incongruous Idea of "word butchers" sheltering under tho root of real butchers.) Thoy compared notes and took stock and alter sbak lnr nands they began to set a few lines ot type for a Are edition. For the headlines letters from different fonts were used. There was not complete case ot tye left, but the nnshanelv m.lianlcal make-up did not detract from the spirit that actu ated the work. It was the happiest day that hud visited I-akeview jour iiallt.ni tor many a bitter month. The ionle anmeciateU the public spirit ed task of the editors and gave them hearty encouragement. The result indeed, was "barriers burned away." A Startlina 8urprle. Very few could believe In looking at A. T. Hoadley. a healthy, robust blacksmith, of Tllden, Ind., that for ton years ho suffered sucu tortures from rheumatism as' fow could en duro and live. But a wonderful change followed his taking' Electric Bitters. Two bottles wnolly cured roe," ho writes, "and I havo not felt a twinge In over a year." They regu late the kidneys, purify the blood and cure rheumatism, neuralgia, norvous ness, Improve digestion and give per fect health. Try them. Only 60 centa at Tallmann & Co's. drug store.
