Kreewa ter Is one of the most prosperous yountr towns In Oregon, incorporat ed leas than a year ago It already claims a population of about 700 per sons, has a number of new business houses, good church buildings, a sue rxEsrni Hrhnnl eood homes and con' temolntes putting in an electric light plant and water works. It draws from thn err-at fruit ami vegetable ueu Umatilla county, and claims to have a sufficient number of other resources to make It a good town besides. It Is near the depot from which an of the produce of the country sur rounding .wiiton r.nd Kreewnior ' shipped and, as has already been Btated. this Is Immense. Three large warehouses for produce are situated along the railroad near this point, also a warehouse for the storage or grain. Two large flouring mills are located here, and while both of these estab lishments would appear to be strictly Freewater Institutions, yet they be long to both Milton and Freewater, and each should be proud of them. Incorporated. The town wns Incorporated March I. of this year anil the following of ficers were elected, who are still In ofllce: John S. Vinson, mayor; A. S. Pearson, recorder: August Tank. treasurer; Chester Shaffer, marshal and Fred Fuedlg, William Johnson, Sam Chrlstensen, J. A, A)ers, J. M. demons and John Young, council men. . .ie town Is in splendid financial condition. It owns two lots, nnd has a town building contamlug council chamber and Jutl all of which Is worth at least $500. The town does not owe a dollar In the world nud has a cash balance on hand of vj4C.44. It already has some good sidewalks and contemplates street grading. The grade has already been established. Street grading In Freewater will he cheap, as the town is on a level plat of ground and the soil is such that it rarely ever gets muddy and Is easy to handle. Electric Lights and Water System. Mr. Fred Freudig, a prominent citi zen of the town Is already figuring on putting in a water system and elec tric light plant. Water power will bo used for the electric light plant as the fall of the Umatilla river is ample to furnish all that Is needed. Tills river will also lie used to supply u now system, in case It -is built. Churches and Lodpes. Freewnter has two splendid church buildings. Neither have pastors at present, but a union Sunday school is conducted regularly and It is ex ltected to hold services regularly at both churches at an early day. Tho Congregational chuich organization has a building valued at $300 and has $500 in bank, the proceeds of the sale of property which the church did not need. The Presbyterians also own a church and lot, which are valued at ?1000. Freewater already bus several nour ishing fraternal and benevolent or ganizations and will soon have her full quota of these Institutions as others are contemplating organiza tions at this place. Tho Maccabees and Lady Macabees, Pendos and Mod em Brotherhood are already organlz ed and hold regular meetings at San ders' hall. Business Institutions. Nenrly all of the business institu tions of Freewater are newly estab lished, but they are thriving nnd full or confidence. The buildings are all new and the stocks of goods fresh and displayed in up-to-date style. The Freewater Times, with 11. F. Brown editor and proprietor, is a neat papur, with the full Interest of the place at heart, and reflects credit to the town It Is only a little more than a year old, but It Is a better paper than many that are much older.
