Umatilla County a Happy Theme for
Discussion,
Several Pendleton people ave In
town today, and they tell a story of
prosperity In that part of the state.
Judge John J. Balleray, who Is -here
on legal business, said:
"Conditions In Umatilla county are
Ideal in most respects. Wheat today
is selling at 60 cents a bushel for the
club variety, and probably all has
been sold in the county excepting
about 750,000 bushels.
'Sixty cents a bushel for wheat
means a good margin of profit to the
Igrower, who has usually sold his
wheat for less than 50 cents, although
at 50 cents there is a fair profit."
Besides Judge Balleray, John Mc
Court, T. G. Halley and C. H. Carter,
attorneys of Pendleton, are In the
city. Mr. Haley is accompanied by
Mrs. Halley. Mr. Hailey Is mayor of
Pendleton as well as being district
attorney of the sixth judicial dlstrlcL
comprising Umatilla and Morrow
counties. Oregon Dally Journal,

Annual Poultry Show.
The executive committee of the
Oregon State Poultry Association met
In the offices of the Pacific Farmer
lost Tuesday evening in Portland and
perfected plans for the eighth annual
poultr yoxhlbltion to bo held in that
city the second week in December.
The prize nnd entry lists were drawn
up, and other necessary arangements
were made.
One of the novelties that will be an
attraction there will be a cat show,
such as are now popular In tho East
em poultry associations. There will
bo 59 classes for exhibition cats, 27 of
which will be for long-haired cats,
2C for loug-haired kittens, and 6 for
kltttens. It being understood that the
term kitten means an animal under
six months old. A competent cat
judge will be secured, and the asso-
uatlon hopes that, In after years, this
department will be a featuie of the
annual shows. Medford Success.

Berlin, Nov. 5. It develops that the
postponement of the emperor's visit

cate condition of the queen of Italy

visit has been deferred until Febru
ary, when he will join the Imperial
yacht Hohenzoelletn, at Genoa, and
