Board Extends Invitation to Attend
Meeting October 2.
Union, Ore., Sept. 26. rfo tho
Editor: The members ot tho board in
charge of the Agricultural Experiment
Station, at union, Union county, Ore
gon, vlll meet, at the station October
2nd, 1902. A special invitation is ex
tended to oil members oC the legisla
ture from Eastern Oregon to meet the
members of tlio board here at that
time and see for themselves what is
being done at the station in experi
mental work, hear an outline of tho
work planned for the future, and as
certain the aid needed from the state
to make the station the success it
ought to be.
The result obtained here during the
year in experimenting In the produc
tion of grasses is in itself a revela
tion. One gras.s produced and brought
to perfection, "The Oregon Brome,"
is said by experts, to be worth more
to the people of the state, than the
whole amount already expended upon
the station. It is not too much to
predict that, with proper encourage
ment, in the near future his station
will mature and give to the state a
grass that will re-carpet the pasture
lands of Eastern Oregon with a forage
plant equally as nutritious and much
hardier than, the bunch grass native
to the soil and now almost extinct.
Here in the Grande Ronde valley the
sugar beet grows to the greatest per
fection in weight and tonnage per
acre, and in sacharine matter and
purity. Experiments in the produc
tion of beet seed from these beets
at the station this season have dem-
enstrated the fact that the seed can
be produced here in great quantities
perfectly matured.
Space will not permit us to go into
details as to the experiments that
have been carried on and conducted
at the station this season, the results
obtained and the experiments con
templated for tho future. In fact, to
fully appreciate all this, one must be
upon the ground and see for himself.
We are persuaded that the people do
not fully appreciate the great benefits
thut must necessarily liow from' the
work of thiB station if it is properly
fostered and encouraged and we are
also persuaded that the members of
the legislature from Eastern Oregon,
8ro also In the dark in this respect.
The. work is a worthy one, and one
in which every member from Eastern
Oregon is especially interested for the
redsou that from it must come great
t-nd lasting benefits to every mem
ber of his constituency. We there
fore take tbls means of extending to
all members of the legislature from
Eastern Oregon, and io all others
feeling a special interest in the work
of the station, to come and view the

Who Is Inside of This Shirt?
Would be hard to guess, but if it
is one of our patrons you can be
sure that it is a man who is well
satisfied when he gets it on. The
man who gets behind a shirt front
laundered here always beams with
satisfaction when he sees the ex
quisite color and finish that we have
aid upon it. Our work is the
acme of perfection on shirts, col
lars and cuffs and you can't match
it anywhere.
