Having Tortured Human Beings Would Not Afflict Stock. New York. Sept 22. Christian scientists In this city read with a great deal of interest yesterday a re- port which came from the west to the effect that the trotting stallion. Lord Vincent, which Is entered in.the 2:09 class races at tho Empire City track next week, had been restored to health and put Into racing form after a serious breakdown through Chris tian science treatment. Lord Vin cent Is owned by H. W. Foote, of Texas. Ho has a record of 2:08 and two years ago won the rich Transylvania stakes at Lexington, It was after winning this race that his illness occurred. The story is that all efforts of vet erenarians to remedy the horse i troubles were unavailing, and then a woman in Youngstown, Ohio, tried the treatment of mind over matter, and restored him to health. Such report was naturally received with incredulity by horsemen, but not by the members of the cult of Mrs Eddy. Franklin Burke, who Is a reader in the Second Church of .Christ, and a well known practitioner, was asked yesterday If such a tiling could bo true'. Mr. Blake said he had not yet heard of the cure of Lord Vincent but that it was a fact that many horses and other domestic animals of all kinds had been cured of all sorts of disorders by Christian scl ence, which was nothing in the world but scientific prayer. "The cure of animals Is a side of Christian science that has not been touched upon very much,' said Mr, Blake, "but In these days of criticism of Christian science It might bo well to refer a little more to It. Anyone who attends our Wednesday night meetings Is apt to hear of cases In which animals have been cured Christian science Is the science of the power of God and that extends over animals as well as men. "Animals often respond to treat ment more readily than human beings for the reason that there Is not that antagonism that we often encounter and have to subdue In tho human mind before we effect a cure: We treat animals generally by the absent method. Of course animals not ue luir able to sneak or reason, It does no real eood to UO with them. "An animal is always in tho right mental attitude and a man is not. Anything a person does for au ani mal towards relieving mm is appre- nintivi. You throw the right menial atmosphere around them and they re spond. There is just one anncuiiy um" times. Animals are reflected tnougm as we legard them. They are sub ject to the ruling of man's mind and the powers that guides thern are mop tal, not God's. Now in tho ease of a horse or any suffering animal it Is iwPKsaiv to clear the atmosphere around him before a cure can be ef fected. If I had such a case I would probably begin tho case on tne per sons wltli wnom me uuuiiai a au tho auimal would bo a reflection or their thought and the niitaermlBm which would Ho In the way of the animal's cure would come from them not fiom the animal. "It is wonderful what Influence thought has on an animal. If I see, a horse pulling a heavy load I al ways stop to send out tho rJght thought to hell) him along. So do; most Christian scientists. Tliero la so much to be done, you see, to advance Christian science among men that nil of us are kept busy. In tlmo wo will do more animal treatment. It might bo well to do more of It now. It might do us all good." Mr. Blake said that a fileud of his living near New York had a valuable horse that went lame, and no vet erouary surgeon succeeded In curing him. The owner asked him to treat the horse, and he did, giving him tho absent treatment. "From the very day I startod," said Mr. Blake, " tho horso began to Improve and In two weeks he had no limp at all." "Are there any practitioners who treat only animal patients" Mr. Hlako was asked. "No," he said, "and tliero will bo none. There are no specialties in Christian science." $100 Rewar., $130. The readers of this paper will be pleas ed to learn that there Is at least on dreaded disease that science has been able to cure In all Its stages and that Is Ca tarrh.
