BLACKMAILERS AT WORK.
Novel Way of Extracting Money'
From "Good Fellows.." ;
There are all kinds of "grafters" In
the world, but a now graft is being
worked tn Pendleton, according to I
good authority. The story is thatj
two men, one short and the other tall,
stnnd In front of places of question
able character and watch for prom-
inent married and business men to I
come and go. occasionally tney i
catch a -victim and he pays them t
"hush" money, but they are more,
often turned down cold. i
The plan of operating is to lay In i
wait for their victim and when hei
comes out of a place where he would
not like to have the world know he
had been frequenting, he is uccosted
by the two individuals, called by name
and told that If he does not care to
have his actions spread broadcast he
would have to "make It right" with
them by giving thein "hush" money.
How many victims have beeu caught
Is not known, but they are thought to
be Tew. The police are working on
the case and arrests are expected at
any time.
