Fruit by Such Organization. North Yakima, Wash., Sept. 8. The Yakima County Fruit Drawers' union, which has boon in operation two months, Is now pronounced it complete success. From a member ship of 50 at the beginning of July It has grown to 133 fruit growers and abount twenty more non-producers who lend their aid to the scheme. At first many growers or tho valley Iboked tij.oi tho union with suspicion but sc successfully has it been con ducted by the manager It is predicted that practically all the growers will become members before the year is out or at least before another season rolls aroun.i. Manager J. M. Porry makes tho an nouncement that a great saving is being made in shipping rates. He says that last year It cost tho indl vidual shippers 75 cents per hundred to get their product to market whllo this year it Is only costing an aver age of 22 centB. The union Is now shipping from 20,000 to 30,000 potindB of produce a day, which is expected to materially increase before the month is out. The success lies in the fact, that by combining the product is scattered and all the markets are kept well supplied. Besides the largo amount of fruit sent out by freight over 200 boxes o day go out by express on special contracts. For the 'first time in the history of fruit shipments a carload of pears goes out from this place each day. Tills is t'oiibie that sent out last year. The reason for this in crease in the pear shipments is that returns are now being received from tho young pear orchards just com ing Into bearing. The fruit as a whole throughout the valley Is better than last year nnJ V-n yield is mucN larger, with unusually good prices ruling. That advertising Is the most effect ive which attracts the eyo and ap peals to tho brain. Strong adjectivoa may be as much out of tnsto In an advertisement as In a bit of more aspiring literature. Exaggeration is always to bo avoided. Pooplo nowa days demand sincerity in all matters of business. It is observable that all tho big and successful advertisers are most careful as to their statements of fact. Thoy realize that confidence Is the key-stone in tho arch of trade. Their success came of their Jealous regard for their work A young Missourlnn, Into nrrlval at Heppnor, was told by prnctlcal Jokers of tho town tho ho would havo to go before tho county clerk and take out natuarlization papers before ho could become a citizen of Oregon. Tho youth believed them and applied to tho clerk for citizenship. Tho clerk "tumbled" and had him sign a solemn oath renouncing his allegiance to tho govern of Missouri. All of which Is oxtroniely funny; but soma day young Missouri will catch on nnd there will be trouble.
