WEEKLY CROP BULLETIN.
Weather Forecast Beale Sends Out
the Following Crop Bulletin for the
Week Just Ending:
Tho weather during tho week has
been very favorable for harvesting,
but too dry for late crops, which
would bo benefited by moro rain.
Pastures aro now very short and feed
Is scarce; stock, as a rule, still keep
in good condition, although tho sup
ply of milk In tho dairy districts con
tinues to shrink.
Tho grain harvest Is drawing to a
close; In tho Umatilla section about
three-fourths of tho crop Is now In
tho sack, and tho farmors have bo
gun hauling wheat to tho warehouses.
The yields In this distrclt aro disap
pointing, and spring wheat, which
looked very promising, is in many
fields falling short of expectations
about five bushels to tho acre. In
the Grando Rondo valley the crop Is
an average one. In Morrow, Gilliam
and Wasco counties tno yields aro
very satisfactory apd generally abovo
the average,
In the Willamette valley returns
from a few counties aro as follows:
Clackamas wheat 20 bushels, oats
30 to 35; Yamhill wheat below 25
bushels, oats 30, barley 25; Polk
wheat .18 bushels, oats 25, barley 35.
In Southern Oregon but little thresh
ing has yet been done, but it is be
lieved tho yields will bo up lo tho
average.
Hops are filling out well and tho
weather conditions have been excell
ent for tho maturing of this crop.
Picking will begin the first of Sep
tember. Corn Is in excellent condi
tion;; it has been too dry for onions
and this crop Is not making as satis-:
factory progress is desired. Potatoes
promise well, except Ju tho coast
counties, where many fields aro
blighted, and this disease seems to
bo spreading, although the dry weath
er ought to check it.
Fruit Is maturing satisfactorily, and
ear,y anI)leB. peaches, and plums aro
pIentlful ln tho raarket- Lato apples

Columbia River Valley.
Olox, Gilliam county, W. O. Flett
weather lavorablo for harvestlnc
grain turning out fairly good; some
loss by prairio fires; fruit rlpenln
and or good quality.
Adams, Umatilla county, C. S. For
guson. Week has been good for har
vesting; dry, cool nights; harvest
drawing to a close; yield about ton
bushels an aero short of an average
but weighs out well; summer fallow
for next crop In bad shape; very foul
most too dry for corn.
Plateau Region.
Elgin, Union county, J. B. Thorson
Tho copious rains of the lirst of tho
week did little damage to crops. ox
cepting to delay harvesting for a few
days; harvesting Is proceeding In this
neighborhood fairly well, A contlnu
ance of the present favorablo weathor
alone Is needed to Insuro a good yield
of wheat. Tho hay crop has been so
cured ln normal good condition.
