THE RANGE DISPUTES.
The bitter feeling over the range j
disputes in Grant county keeps break
ing out with lawless acts, and there
seems no way to sette the difficulty.
The question will be adjusted wheu
the land is all settled and owned by
private parties.
As the matter now stands the dis
puted range is owned by the govern
ment on which one individual has as
much legal right as another. This
is what the sheepmen claim.
On the other hand a good portion ot
the trouble comes from the protest
of the homesteaders, aud their claims
are that they have settled in the range
districts. All the land they can take
up Is 160 acres. Most of them are
poor people and depend upon the in
come from a few cattle for evistence.
That the sheepmen come from other
counties with thousands of sheep and
nliKnliitpIr oaf thnm hut of house and
home. Thev feel that they are en !
titled to the range in the vicinity of
their homes.
Both sides go to extremes. The
rifle and revolver methods will never
settle the question. Camp tenders
should be careful and not encroach t
upon the rights of others. Sheepown
ers want to do what Is right and cat
tlemen should meet them half way.

the performers in the front of the
