KNIGHTS IN SAN FRANCISCO FOLLOWERS OF DAMON AND PYTHIAS GATHER. Grand Biennial National Encampment Knights of Pythias Being Held at Golden Gate City. San Francisco, Cal., Aug. 9. This city is today the mecca of tens of thousands of the most prominent and representative citizens of the United States. From every part of the coun try, from far-away Maine and Massa chusetts, from Florida and Oregot, and from all the commonwealths Be tween, the representatives of the Knights of Pythias are gathering for the national biennial encampment and the meeting of the supreme lodge of their order. Evidence Is not lack Ing in support of the statement that it will be the greatest fraternal gath ering in the history of this country, in point of numbers, as well as In splendor. For more than a year the commit tee of reception and entertainment, composed of the most prominent and active members of the order In Call fornla, has been preparing for the aa- vent of the mighty hostB that will so journ in this city and suburbs for tho next six days, and even thus early the thousands of strangers are willing to admit that Its work has been well done. In the matter of decoration, it might be said that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as in the busines section of San Francisco today. On every hand, over doors and windows, spanning the streetB, or floating from tall staffs, are the well known emblems of the order, with a plentiful profusion of the stars and stripes. The public buildings, pri vate residences and business blocks alike are gayly decorated, while across many of the principal streets are mag nificent arches. Van Ness avenue, the broadest and finest residence street of the city, has been transform ed into one grand fair for the entire length of 35 blocks on each side of which every county of California has an elaborate and Interesting exhibit of its resources. The advance guard of visitors ar rived loday and' before tomorrow noon a score more of special trains will reach the city. A glance at the reg isters of the leading hotels shows that there is not a state in the Union that is not already represented. A noticeable feature of the gathering is the large number of visitors who are attracted simply as spectators. Rail road officials estimate that by the time the encampment opens on Mon day there will bo no fewer than 100,00 strangers in the city. For the accomodation of this host, private res idences have been thrown open in ad dition to tho hotels and boarding houses. Five thousand bunks also have been placed in the Mechanics Pavilion, while the members of the uniform rank are to be accomodated in tents furnished by the war depart ment. Look Pleasant, Please. Photographer C. C. Harlan, of Ba-ton,-0., can do so now, though for years he couldn't, because he suffer ed untold agony from the worst form of indigestion. All physicians and nfedlclnes failed to help blra until he .tried Electric Bitters, which worked such wonders for blm that ho de clares they are a godsend to sufferers from dyspepsia and stomach troubles. Unrivaled for diseases of the stom ach, liver, kidneys, they build up and give new life to tho whole system. Try them. Only 50c. Guaranteed by Tallman & Co'., druggiBts. Lumber, Lumber, Lumber.
