Antelope Herald Has Interview With Man Who Gave Particulars Re garding the Killing of the Animals. The flrst Information with any ap pearance of accuracy coming in re garding the shooting of J. C. Moore's sheep while on pasture as reported Jn yesterday's East Oregopian, is con tained in a recent issue of the Ante lope Herald, which says regarding this affair: There seemB to be more truth in the report of serious trouble between stockmen in the mountains than -was flrst credited. George Clark, of ML Vernon, who arrived in town yester day, reports that on last Friday, a band of sheep belonging to Jerome Moore of Mt. Vernon were shot into while corraled at Show Shoe, near Bear Valley. The band of sheep was corraled during the night, and at about 12 o'clock a party of men ap peared and began shooting into them, wun tne result that 3Z5 head were killed. This is the most serious shooting scrapq that has occurred, and will doubtless lead to further trouble. r Moore has no idea as to the identity of the men who did the shooting, further than a general idea as to the parties "in interest." A pe culiar phase of the shooting is thai Mr. Moore has been using this same range for summering his sheep for the past ten years, and surely no stockman had a better right than he to it, according to the custom of tho country. Mr. Clark feels that he has been very fortunate in the sale of his sheep at he time he sold. He was headed for the same neighborhood in which Mr. Moore's sheep were located., but sold his sheep while they were' enroute to the mountains, and they were turned back. But for this, he believes that he too would have suf fered a Bevere loss. Here's Another Story. Charles JLadiges, who is in the em ploye of S. B. Barker, of Condon and who was with Mr. Barker's band of sheep in Bear Valley at the time of the recent shooting, was in town last week and stated to a Condon News representative that the report in regard to the shooting was exag gerated. He saidf "About 20 sheep were killed and about the same num ber wounded, which, of course, had to be killed, in order to move on with the band. One of our dogs was wounded and one of the bullets enter ed a pack on the back of one of the horses, imbedding itself in a book in the pack." Continuing, he said: "Two or three hundred shots were exchanged, but none of the sheepmen nor their horses were hurt. As to whether any of the acerressors were wounded I do not know, although It has been so re ported." Mr, Ladiges says that no further trouble is anticipated. H1b sheep at present are near Logan valley. May Bring Relief. Sheepmen are now curious to know what effect the locating of so much timber land in the mountains will have upon their business says the Grant County News. When the claimants secure title to the land it will be theirs to do with as they like, yVTiether they will keep sheep off or whether thay will lease it is not known. Owners of sheen rather hope the claimants will offer to lease the land, as thereby they can secure rights to summer range that they do not now have. Biigntiy aoove the normal, on one or two days the winds wero hot and it Is thought that they caused some slight damage to spring grain. The harvesting of fall grain continues an in southern Oregon the work is well along. No thrashing of any con sequence has yet been done and it is too early to obtain much information regarding yields. The grain heads are large and the berry is plump but fears are entertained that in the Unih tllla wheat sections the yields will bo disappointing. Elsewhere it, is thought they will be up to expectations. Tno outlook is favorable for a heavy crop of oats. Pastures have dried up fast (luring the week, but stock continues in good condition. In tho coast coun ties and in the Plateau section ot the state the hay crop turned out to bo larger and better than expected. Early potatoes are spotted with blight in Bome sections In the coast counties, but in general, both early and late potatoes are doing well. Hops, corn, sugar beets, field onions, and gardens continue to make satis factory advancement. Italian prunes in many sections are reported a total failure. The apple crop promises to be a fair one and so far, the damage by the codlln moth has been less than usual. Classified Advertisements COUNT SIX AVERAGE WORDS TO THE LINE.
