Only Celebration In the City Took Place There. Were you a visitor at Kine's grove Friday afternoon or night? not you missed lots of fun. Althoifgh the day was cloudy the wind blew a gale and tho air was very chilly, a largo crowd were at the picnic from early in the afternoon to midnight. The weather cut the program somewhat short but several events were pulled off that were en- Joyed by those present. The first event was the 50-yard dash by unprofessional for a dap ple grey horse. This was won by El mer Turner. The ulster, awarded for the fat man's race, was won by Tom Merrill; the sack race, prize a watch and chain, was won by George Arns- piger; ladies' 50-yard dash for a suite of furniture, was won by Miss Katie Duncan, as was the needle- threading contest for a sewing ma chine. The pie-eating contest was won by Charles Stickler, and the sec ond prize by Bud Somraers.. The prizes were badges. The gentlemen and lady waltzers who carried off the honors for being tho best on the platform, were Gurney Hays and Mrs. Victor Elliott. The judges were Robert Laing, Carl Hansen and Thomas McMahan. But the fun came in when the prizes were awarded. J. T. Hinkle was the man who this honor fell tc and he did his work in applo pie or der. All of the prizes were toys Those entering the contest "were led to believe they were going to receive some really valuable article and each nerve was strained to win. While the dancing continued all the afternoon it did not assume very great proportions until aftei dark, when the large platform was crowd ed to Its utmost.
