"WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 1902.
ELECTRIC LINE FOR MILTON.
Two Companies Now Want to Build
-Road -The re.
Milton, July 2.Milton citizens are
now very much elated over the pros
pects of naving an electric railway
in the near - future. Between the
Romo-Mellmann electric road propos
ed from Dayton to Pendleton, which
is to tap this city, and O. .R. Ballou,
promoter of the Ballou electric road
from "Walla "Walla to Milton, it looks
very much as though one line or the
other would he built.
The Romo-Mellmann company have
been hefore the council of this place
and the city officials are only wait
ing to see what "Walla "Walla does.
If the proposition is looked upon with
favor and everything granted in that
city the people of this place will fol
low suit without any question. It
Is also understood that the city offi
cials of Freewater, just across the
road, will also grant the franchise
to Homo and Mellmann. They seem
to be in the lead now but M. Ballou
has been before the council and is
asking that he be granted a franchise
