NO HIGH Pair Spectator Is Umpire Gamely Her Escort (absently) Never drinks PREDICTS A SHORTAGE. Government Crop Report Says Wheat Will Be Short. According to government reports, the wheat crop will be short Mar kets continue to show no particular change, from a local standpoint, the absence of any export business of moment and the winding up of the fiscal year detracting from interest in the situation, says the West Coast Trade. There was a certain amount of strength developed in Eastern speculative centers on tho basis of a wet harvest and reported foreign crop shortages, which were reflected in cent better prices by exporters, who now quote G5Jc for club and OGc for bluestem, but the principal course of spot business is on milling ac count. The bulk of bluestem suita ble for milling is well cleaned up throughout the Pacific Northwest, and a heavy premium has ueen ex acted from the mills which seek to pick up a supply sufficient to keep them in operation until the new crop is harvested and available. All sorts of prices have been paid, with a range up to 70 72c at tho top. Based upon the government crop report, indicating a yield of approxi mately 350,000,000 bushels winter and and 294,000,000 bushels spring wheat, there will be a shortage of nearly 100,000,000 bushels in the combined crap this year, as compared with final returns on laBt season's output. Still the yield will be a fair one, and with corn and oat crops more nearly normal there wllj be removed a source of demand which has absorb ed an immense amount of wheat dur ing the season drawing to a close, and unless foreign sortages should be of considerable moment there are no reasons to 'anticipate values above the fairly satisfactory figures obtain ed from the crop of .1901. One cargo of 133,402 was cleared for South Africa during the week. Receipts were down again, though fully normal for June, aggregating 104 cars, or 97,760 bushels. CHANGE OF DISTRICTS. Western Union Telegraph Company Divides the Fourth District. J. E. Krause, manager of the local western Union Telegraph office, has received instructions that on July and thereafter the Fourth district of the company will bo sub-divided into two districts. The first division will embrace all lines and offices south of the state of Oregon. Frank H. Lamb, formerly aslstant superintendent of the Fourth district, has been appointed superintendent of this division. His headquarters will be in San Francis co. The second division will comprise all lines and offices north of the state of Colorado and Nevada, including British Columbia. G. W. Gouldlng will be superintendent of the second division with headquarters in Seat tie. Pendleton will be in the second district. Formerly this district was called the fourth district and comprised all the Pacific coast states. The dlvld ing of the district was found neces stry because of "the increased busi ness of the company. It was found that one man could not superintend all of the districts and do it as it should be done and with the present division two men will be in charge of the same territory looked after by one before.
