THE BIG WINDS
JAMES A. HOWARD TALKS
REGARDING THE PROPERTY.
Says It Has the Biggest Hlgh-Grade
Ore Bodies In the Camp Three
Feet of $150 Ore Red Boy Proper
ty Is Looking Very Fine.
James A. Howard, secretary of the
Red Boy Consolidated Gold Mines
, Company, and also of the Golconda
Consolidated Gold Minos Company,
; has -recently returned from a two
weeks' visit at the properties of the
companies in which ho is interested.
Seen by a representative of the
, East Oregonian, he reported things
in the camp in general In flrst-class
shape. At the Red Boy everything
, is running smoothly with a full force
of men and the Concord ground, re
cently acquired by the consolidated
company, is being rapidly opened up,
' showing up some splendid mineral
; ization. Both the Blaino and Helen

veins of that ground are disclosing
largo bodies of high-grade milling
ore.
Tho ore of the Red Boy is also
showing up better than for several
months past, the mill is doing bet
ter than last summer and, taking it
all In all, this property is. looking
more promising than for a long time.
Tho lack . of more marked improve
ment in tho showing of tho Red Boy
is duo to the fact that sinco Febni.
nry 1 a great deal of dead work has
been dono in drifting and opening up
tho Concord ground.
Asked if it was the intention of
tho company to continue deep sink
ing in the main shaft and put in tho
Olive creek water power during tho
orcsent summer, Mr. Howard stated
that arrangements were being per
fected as rapidly as possible, tho con
summation or which would mean tho
sinking of the shaft at least 1000 feet
cloeper and tho completion of, tho
Olive creek water power plant so
the company can develop nt least
2000 horse-power. Tho company
hopes and believes that it will bo
able to get both of these enterprises
well under way during the present
summer and fall.
Speaking of tho Golconda, ho said
that tho reports appearing in tho
nowspapers regarding this proporty
were substantially correct. Develop
ment there is disclosing high-grade
oro beyond tho most sanguine Jiopes
and expectations of tho purchasers.
In addition to tho fact that tho
management has been nble to follow
up tho rich shoot disclosed by tho
workings of tho Messrs. English, tho
moat important disclosure has boon
tho opening of a rich shoot nt tho
tunnel level, immediately off tho
collar of tho shaft.
"To the south of this level," said
Mr. Howard, "we havo opened a
shoot of high-grade sulphide oro av
eraging $150 across tho three feet
lying along tho wall. Wo havo now
plenty of ore to start tho mill, a 20"
stamp concentrator plant, and it is
only 1 question of policy as to
whether tho mill shall be started
within a month or six weeks or not.
"Taken all in all, tho Golconda, in
my opinion, is developing more high
grade oro in proportion to tho amount
of work done than any other mine in
tho camp.
"It is only a'question as to whether
we will be able to hang on to tho
