Yesterday was a very quiet day for election day and contrary to tho ex pectations of many, few arrests were made in tho county for alleged vot ing without a right. G. R, and H. B. Smith, brothers, claiming to have hailed from- Port land, were tho only men arrested in town and they were placet! in Jail, whore they still remain, charged with votlnc illegally. Thov went to East Pendleton precinct nnd attempted to vote but were challenged and not al lowed to vote there. Then they wont to Pendleton rtrocinrt nnd thorn tho judges allowed them to cast their vote after finding that they had boon declared legal voters by six free holders of the county. Tho men were immediately arrested and thrown in as the result but what disposition will be made with them is not known, as their records will bo looked into be fore action is taken.
