Both Rich Streak and Sulohurets Widen and Values Increase Greatest Ore Body Ever Found Underground Large Body of Low er Grade Ore Encountered on the 500-Foot Level. Sunday this camp was again startled, excited, ami delighted over the report of additional riches dis covered in the Golconda, says the Sumpter Miner. Early In the forc- tinnn Riinfrlntfndfrit Molklo tolfi phoned that the rich strike reported last ween naa mo previous mgiu been discounted. The story, as it is circulated nrmiTid town, wna that the shoot i .. - - VJ 1 os ou.uuu ore nau uceii uuvuumuicu gtandlnff as great values enhanced. Several gen tlemen went out to the mine in the afternoon to inspect the wonderful find, among the number being Claude Dasche and Otto Herlockor. The latter stated to the writer that the rich streak had not been uncov ered in the lower workings; that no search had been made thtre, but that the winze on the 200-foot level, m which it was first encountered, has been sunk about fifteen feet deeper and at that point the rich streak had widened to quite twenty inches nnd that the sulphurets oij either side nad also increased 'in width, to between four and five feet. Strange to say, the values have also increased, with depth and width. Your old experienced mining man will at once beskeptical when these values are designated in dollars and rflnts. Last. week, in reporting this wonderlul, this fabulously rich strike the Miner stated that tlio tweivo inches carried $5ft-,000 in gold to the ton, and that the three feet of sul phrets was worth $500. From an. au thority the reliability and accuracy nf whifh cannot be doubted, it is learned that these values have actu ally been increased tully thirty-live lier cent. Start to estimate the value of a mine with this kind of an ore body, and the figures become mind-becloud-in IT Tl nthine so hie and rich has ever before been discovered and authenti cated. Samples of tuis ore are on exhibi tion at the First Bank of Sumpter. They are literally covered, permeat ed with gld. You can get any kind nt nn nosnv vnu mav wish from se lected specimens. The sulphurets nrp identical in annearance with those from the North Pole, being characterized by the exceeding fine nf the erystalization. In addition to all this, which, it must be confessed, sounds much like a fairy story, but is in reality unex- ne-trerated. though literally a gnuer Jng fact, recent work on the COO-foot Imrol linn iiTirnvnreil a bodv Of Ore that would Inspire the conservative mininp- mnn with oven more confi dence in the permanent value of the property. Compared with the above, it Is low grade, carrying only about $18, but there is lb leet or it anu u per cent of the values can be saved on the plates ana in me cjaiuuB tanks. That is good enough In itseir. In speaking of this matter Sunday Avoiiinrr n mlnlne man whnnl the writer has never before seen 'become enthusiastic on any proposition, said: "I was in Hie Golconda vrrKiiigs a f'rw flnvn nco. shortly after this ore shoot was first uncovered, examined it thoroughly, and In all my experi ence, I have never seen anything that can approach it. It undoubtedly con tains more gold than any ore nouy 01 equal extent ever uncovered, as It is nisn rim Inreest. ore body carrying such fabulous values that was ever found under ground. Had such a strike ever been made ?n Cripple Creek, excursion trains would have been run out from Denver and Col orado Springs and thousands of peo ple would have gone to the mine to look at the dump and gaze down the shaft, awe inspired. Ana nere, wen, it's different in Oregon." lng a few days this we3k renewing old acquaintances. Miss Mary Owens, of Walla Walla, is visiting thla week with Mrs. C, W. (5ate3.
