BASEBALL AT LA GRANDE
NO GAME WEDNESDAY ON
ACCOUNT OF RAIN.
A Game Today, the Weather Permit.
tingLa Grande Won First Game
From Yellow Kids by Good Luck.
La Grande, May 15. On acount of
rain, the game ot ball scheduled for
Wednesday afternoon, between the
Yellow Kids ol Athena and tho La
Grande team, was declared off. They
will play this afternoon, the weather
permitting.
Of the game between these teams
on Tuesday last, the Chronicle says:
Coupled very largely with the ele
ment of good fortune. La Grande won
from the Yellow Kids of Athena the
first of the series of professional ball
games by a score of 10 to 9. In the
last half of tho niuth the visitors had
a man on third, but a short fly to the
field stopped a run that would have
made the score a tie. The game was
very even all the way through, ann
the feature that added to the interest
was tho uncertainty of tho outcome
which run all ho way through from
the first man to bat until the final
put oul. Tho score-malvinc would urob-
ably bave been reduced under better
weather conditions. It was a littlo too
cool for a hot game of ball and n
breeze and cloudy atmosphere were
to some extent responsible for errors
about evenly divided.
The Athena team is recognized as a
good one and they have been in some
of the closest and strongest contests
in this interior country and have
been winners. The La Grande team
are all ball players, but had not until
this game had the opportunity of play
ing together. From the showing made
in this first game, they arc all O. K.
and will do to maintain the honors of
the diamond.
An accident occurred which will
somewhat weaken the team for a
while. Mitchell, the second baseman,
threw his arm out in .the middle of the
game. Wallace Childers was substi
tuted and he did some good work
with the stifk, but was not quite equal
to the professionals in all around
work.
PENDLETONS WIN AGAIN
DEFEAT VANCOUVER, B. C,
TEAM IN CLOSE GAME.
The Score Was 3 to 2 Pendleton
Rooters Association Prepare to
Welcome Home the Victorious Pen
dleton Indians.
The Pendleton baseball aggregation
is still "doing things" to the ball toss
ers wherever they play. At Vancou
ver Wednesday, Captain Zlegler'a
team won the game by a score of 3
to 2, but from the fact that so few
scores were made on either side, it is
evident that Vancouver has a team
that is able to put up a good game.
Wilner pitched the game for Pendle
ton and Brown caught. The Vancou
ver players only got three safe hits
off Wilner. The same teams played
again this afternoon.
Rooters to Dance.
Last night the Pendleton Rooters
Association met in the council cham
ber and talked over the arrangements
for a reception in honor of Captain
Ziegler's team when it returns. It Is
not yet definitely settled when the
boys will be home, but the plans now
are for a dance to be given by the
rooters In Music hall next Monday
night. This will be In honor of the
ball tossers who have won laurels on
their trip through Washington and
British Columbia, and the proceeds
will be applied toward finishing pay
ing for the new uniforms.
The committee appointed to arrange
for the dance consists of Roy Rltner,
Lee Held, Fred Crawford, Charles
Bond and Fred Lampkln.

THE PLAY FRIDAY NIGHT.
Helen Carrall Takes the Two Lead.
Ing Parts In "Two Little Walfe."
"Two Little Waifs," from the pen
of Lincoln J. Carter will bo seen for
the first time here, Friday, May 16tb
at the Frazer Opera House. It Is
said to be one of tho most preterm
tious of Mr. .Carter's many plays.
The story of this play hinges upon
the striking likeness of two women
in love with tho same man, who, un-J
known to each other aro twin sisters.
Tho dual role Is taken by Helen Car-'
rail, at one moment depleting
motherly love, the faithfulness of a
deserted wife, and tho selt-sacrltlc-lug
principle of a woman who be
lieves her husband to be truo and
in the next, she portrays a character
as villalnous and deceptive as tho
other is pure" and beautiful.
Stanley and Loltta Lamb essay tho
parts of the waifs. These clever
tots Vorc last seen here with tho
"A Night Before Christmas" com.
pany, and In their new parts this
season aro said to have mndo a pro
nounced hit.
Tho scenic effects it Is asserted nre
