Archie McEachern, the well-known bicycle rider of Toronto, while being paced by a motor tandem at Atlantic City, Tuesday, met with an accident which resulted in his death 20 minute" later. The accident was the result of the breaking of the chain on the -mo- tor cycle. He collided with the mo tor. "Dummy Rowan of Park City and "Deafy" Thompson of Montana", met at Salt Lake, Monday night, in a contest for the deaf-mute champion ship of the world. The pugilists fought at catch weights. T7c told of the wonderful growth in pop ulation and wealth that would be sure to now to Oregon from the exposition and declared that it Would give Ore gon a million people by the beginning of 190C. He revealed the opportunity placed before the Northwest by this fair and closed asking the people or Pendleton and Umatilla county to co operate to the Utmost nf rhoir nhilitv in carrying to a successful conclusion an enterprise which promised untold benefit to the entire section "where rolls the Oregon." It was the sense of the meeting that a committee of five be appointed to devise means of raising a stock subscription fund in Pendleton and Umatilla county, and Mayor Hailey was authorized to name the commit tee to carry forward the work.
