The price quoted now is 53 cents locally and foreign markets remain about the same as several weeks. No wheat is changing hands, as the farmers who have small. lots left are not compelled to sell and will hold over unless they get a better price than the present. Other markets remain about the same they were a week ago. No change in any line except canned goods has occurred, although every thing in the grocery and produce line is quoted at a good figure and with a stronger tendency indicating that the consumer will make no mistake by laying in a supply of all the staple articles in the grocery line. Canned goods have advanced 10 cents on the dozen in the Portland markets, with good indications for a still further ad vance. Sugar remains weak, being quoted at the same figure it was a week ago J5.25 per sack for the best grade of granulated. Livestock and dressed meats are the same. Local Market Prices. The following snows the prices paid on the local market: Turnips, 75c per sack. Parsnips, 75c per sack. Cabbage, 4c lb. Cheese, per lb., 20c. Onions, per cwt, $2. Beets, per lb., lc. Portland Wheat Portland, March 20. The Commer cial Review says: There is only a limited inquiry for wheat outside of milling require ments; exporters having fair stocks on hand and not inclined to purchase more just now, especially on the basis of sellers' ideas. Plenty of grain re mains in the country, but It Is in very strong hands and holders show indiff erence about selling at this time, and firmiy impressed with the idea that the liour,.ii!jlJiJ will be compelled to use what wheat remains for their grinding the next five months before any new wheat is marketed, and that they will be repaid for waiting by sell ing at advanced figures. Thero are a number of vessels, both at Portland and Puget Sound, loading wheat, and when these vessels are finished tho market will be of a dragging charac ter until next season. Portland will virtually be completed, but there is plenty of wheat at Puget Sound and . tributary thereto to load a great many I cargoes. Shipments from both ports to date show a considerable increaso over the 12 months of last year, and there are three and one-half months to go yet in this season. Crop ad vices are of the best, and all the grain damaged by the freeze of January has been resown. Spring seeding Is going on quite rnpidly, and indications point to a larger area than that of the past year. Prices of wheat show but little exchange and exports have reduced their limits and are quoting for club, C5c; bluestem, G7c, and val ley, GGc per bushel. No sales are made at these figures. Mills are paying 2c and 3c premium for choice stock. London Wool Auction Sales. London, March 20. Tho offerings at tho wool auction sales today num bered 14,755 bales. All fine scoureds were In good demand at full prices, and occasionally higher rates were paid. Crossbreds and Merinos were firm. Inferior stock sold less freely. Americans purpchased fine merinos and greasy crossbreds at higher rates. The present series will close on May 2G. Boston, March 20. Business in the wool market here, as well as In other branches here, has been practically sospended during the past week, ow ing to the general sympathetic striko among the longshoremen teamsters. The market, however, Is firm. The price for territory holds steady, choice lots of fine wool selling on the scoured basis at 483)50c, with fine medllum quoted at 444Gc. Medium territory grades are selling at 38 l0o, scoured, with occasional fancy lota going higher. The market for ileece wools Is quiet, but prices remain steady, Australian wools aro held firm, but offerings available and sales made were small. San Francisco Markets. San Francisco, Murch 20.
