Mr. Barber says that this country has been greatly misrep resented to tho people of the East by tho railroad companies who are try ing to "graft" them Into coming here in order to get hold of some of their hard-earned money. Tho country was painted up to him as being one of the finest countries on earth that Mr. Barber thinks Is true where land that will grow from 40 to CO bushels of wheat to the acre can bo had by the homeseeker Just by settl ing on it and tilling tho soil. Ho says that he believes tills is the hest coun try on the globe and there is no need for It being overrated or lied about for, if tho truth is told, people will come here from Eastern and Middle states to bettor their condition and will not be disappointed at not find ing a fine home Just waiting for them to step into. If people come here with i that idea in their head they are sol badly disappointed that they at once ; turn against the country and, if they have the money will Immediately turn and go back, and If not, they will go Just as early as they can possibly got the price of a railroad ticket and then they will give the country a black eye to all their friends and wJII keep many more away that would come with means nnd with the Intention of buy ing homes and settling down. Mr. Barber thinks that there is a much better dhow in Oregon for a man than whore he came from. Land there sells at from $40 to $50 per acre and is very rough. It will not grow moro than 20 bUBhels of wheat per aero and about 35or 40 bushels of corn. This corn usually sells at about 30 cents, which only yields the grower $10 per acre. Here 25 to DO bushels will grow on land that sells at the same figure or less ,and this wheat will realize to tht worker a good deal more to tho acre than corn In Iowa. The country where Mr. Barber comes from Is prin cipally a hog and cattle country and blue grass is the principal product, The snow gets two feet deep and tho thermometer runs down to from 10 to 30 below zero frequently in the win ter months. Try them. drug storo 25c at Tallman & Co.'s Ilalf-dovoloped oystors nnd claniH which are in poor flesh, as a stock man would say, are now kept in regu lar pens nnd fattened for tho market, as if they were pigs or other livestock.
