Mi Williamson, of T'rlnevtlle. said to the Portland Oroconlan: 'The unsettled condition of the poi lit leal situation in Rastern Oregon, and In fact. In the entire state, ttiBkes It Imioaalhle for me to make a defi nite announcement of any candidacy at present. My friends know that It has been my desire to go before the state convention as a candidate for tan ratM) of state. I have had no In tention of flirting with two nomina tions, but circumstances may so shape themselves that 1 may be compelled to forego in) ambition Regarding my possible candidacy for congresa, I shall be governed more or less by con ditions, as Is ever) man In public life. It Is early yet to discuss nominal lonr to hi made next summer." The Uregonian's Comment. While It will be seen by the state' nient thai Mr. Williamson denies flat ly that he Is a miscellaneous candi date for whatever office may drop his way, yet he is not now ready to an nounce Just where be will be In the eruabla for political honors. A politician, familiar with the sit uation, said yesterdnv that It waa more than lil-ely that Mr. Williamson would allow the sc. rctaiy of atate nomination to go by from him. and that himself a candidate sional nomination. has long existed betwien certain re publicans and Congressman Moody snd the lorniei are urging Williamson to make rhe tight ugalnst Moody. Moody and Williamson. Hersonnlly Mr. Williamson admits that he would prefer to be nominated in; sei n tar of stiit. hut be is In the hands of his political friends and feels that be will have to do what the party leaders think he should. According to current political gossip, there Is bad blood between Mnorty anil William son and the former la credited by the rook county senator's friends with having made an open declaration of war, by stating that Williamson will not have a single delegate from Was co countv behind him for secretary of state. When Moody waa renominated the set ond time, say Mr. Williamson's Irlends, it was Mesrrs. Williamson who held tin gon delegation together for him the nomination this clulm, there has been a cry of treachery from the nun around Mr. Williamson, and the slogan Is 'Any thing to beat Moody." Williamson and Furnish. "It la a foregone conclusion." said a man yesterday, who Is In confidence of both men, "thai Clatsop l ane .and Marion counties will lie for Dunbar for the secretaryship. The four strongest counties In Kastern Oregon Batter, Umatilla, Wasco and Union, wll be for Furnish tor governor, and each county has its own candidate for a minor place on the ticket, except Umatilla. Therefore Mr Williamson stands small chance of being lu the race for secretary of state, and it Is doubtful if he will have even his own immediate vicinity back of him In tlc state convention. "Ou the other hand opposition haa been manifested against Moody, and the belief is current that the element in the party opposed to him has prac tically received a promise from Wll- Furnish aud Kastern Ore and secured In view of ANKENY TELLS EASTERN OREGON TO GET IN And Drill for Recognition by the State Conventions Some Comment on Candidatea From Hereabouts. While in Raker City. Levi Ankeny. president or the First National Haul; of Pendleton, said: It Is time for the people of Kastern Oregon to claim their birthrights. They can only do so when they or ganise and demand their rights In a solid body. Instead of the separate combinations seeking recognition sep arately, they should unite upon their man. nnd give him the entire support of Kastern Oreiron." When asked what he thought about the prospects of Henry Ankeny. his brother, of Southern Oregon, as a candidate for governor, against Governor Oeer, Mr. Ankeny replied that he. of course, fa vored his brother, not only because Henry was a near relative, but be cause he was a good man for the place D.
